Bitcoin Falls to $77,000: Is the Short-Term Trend Turning More Bearish?
Bitcoin's battle around $80,000 has taken another difficult turn. After failing to maintain its position above the psychological $80,000 level, BTC has now slipped toward $77,000, showing that sellers are still controlling the short-term market structure. What initially looked like a possible recovery after the Federal Reserve's October 28 decision has instead developed into another downside move.
In my view, this is an important moment for Bitcoin because the market is no longer simply testing resistance. It is now searching for a new support base.
Why Bitcoin Failed to Recover
The Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged within the 3.75%–4.00% range. However, the decision did not deliver the positive market reaction some traders expected. The committee's concerns about elevated inflation and the possibility of further tightening created uncertainty.
Bitcoin initially moved toward $81,600–$81,700 following the announcement, but buyers could not maintain that momentum. The rejection around $81,500–$81,700 indicated that sellers were waiting at higher levels.
Once BTC lost $80,000, selling pressure increased. The move toward $77,000 suggests that market participants are becoming more cautious, particularly after the failure to reclaim previous resistance.
Important Support Levels to Watch
The short-term technical picture has weakened, and I would now focus on these price areas:
- $77,000–$76,000: Immediate support zone. Buyers need to demonstrate that demand is returning here.
- $75,000–$74,000: A potential secondary support area if selling pressure continues.
- $72,000–$70,000: A deeper downside zone that could become relevant if the broader correction accelerates.
A strong reaction around $76,000–$77,000 could create the foundation for a temporary recovery. However, a breakdown below this area with increasing volume would make the bearish scenario more concerning.
Can Bitcoin Recover $80,000?
For bulls, the first objective is to stabilize above $77,000 and reclaim $78,500–$80,000.
My important resistance levels are:
- $78,500: First recovery barrier.
- $80,000: Major psychological resistance.
- $81,100–$81,800: Previous rejection zone.
- $84,500–$85,000: Potential bullish target if momentum returns.
A recovery above $80,000 alone would not confirm a complete trend reversal. I would prefer to see a sustained four-hour close above this level, increasing trading volume, and eventually a daily close above $81,800.
If those conditions develop, Bitcoin could attempt another move toward $84,500–$85,000.
My Short-Term Trading Strategy
At approximately $77,000, I would avoid blindly buying simply because Bitcoin has declined significantly. A lower price does not automatically mean a confirmed bottom.
For a potential long setup, I would watch for a clear bullish reaction around $76,000–$77,000, followed by a confirmed reclaim of nearby resistance.
For short-term bearish opportunities, a confirmed breakdown below $76,000 could expose the $75,000–$74,000 region. However, chasing a falling market also carries considerable risk because sharp recovery candles can quickly liquidate leveraged positions.
I would keep risk limited to 1–2% per trade and avoid excessive leverage.
My Final View
Bitcoin's short-term structure currently favors caution rather than aggressive bullish positioning. The rejection near $81,700, failure to hold $80,000, and subsequent decline toward $77,000 have weakened the recovery narrative.
However, I am not ruling out a relief bounce. The next important signal will be whether buyers can defend $76,000–$77,000 and rebuild momentum.
For now, my approach is simple: protect capital, wait for confirmation, and avoid emotional entries.
The $80,000 battle is not over, but Bitcoin must first prove that it can recover the support it has lost. The next move will depend on whether buyers finally step in or sellers continue pushing the market lower.
