The gold market has recently staged a dramatic “plot twist”: a few days ago, prices fell below $4,000 and bearish voices were everywhere; in the blink of an eye, gold had climbed back above this psychological threshold. Investors’ emotions have been more thrilling than a roller coaster ride.
As of October 28, international spot gold has regained ground above $4,000, with markets closely watching the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision. Gold had previously fallen to around $3,975, then rebounded, buoyed by dip-buying and falling oil prices.
So, is gold about to start climbing again?
Don’t pop the champagne just yet. The rebound in gold prices shows, on the one hand, that there is some buying support around $4,000; on the other, it may simply be a technical recovery after a string of declines. If the Fed sends hawkish signals, strengthening the dollar and U.S. Treasury yields, gold could still come under pressure.
Put simply, $4,000 isn’t a “guarantee against a drop” for gold; it’s a gate both bulls and bears are fighting to control.
For investors, what really matters is not how exciting the moment gold breaks above $4,000 is, but whether it can stay above that level.
After all, what the market does best is give you a lesson in risk management just as you’re getting ready to celebrate.
Do you think gold is making a comeback this time, or just catching its breath?$XAUUSD
