The most common mistake investors make is treating “rate cuts” as a magic button that makes Bitcoin rise. Unfortunately, financial markets aren't vending machines: inserting a rate-cut coin doesn't guarantee a big green candle.
What really matters at tomorrow's FOMC meeting is whether the path for future rate cuts has changed. If the Fed keeps rates unchanged but signals that inflationary pressures are easing and there is room to ease in the future, markets may still price in expectations of lower rates early.
For $BTC, this means liquidity expectations and risk appetite could improve. But Bitcoin has a temperament of its own: leveraged positions, fund flows, and market sentiment could all make the move start early—or suddenly send the bulls “off duty.”
Conversely, if Powell emphasizes that inflation remains stubborn and rates need to stay high for longer, traders may reassess risk-asset valuations. Highly leveraged bulls fear not bad news itself, but bad news arriving faster than their stop-losses.
There's another classic scenario: the Fed says something neutral, the market rises and then falls, and everyone ends up asking, “What went wrong?”
The answer may be simple: everyone expected a dovish surprise, but all they got was what was in line with expectations.
Trading idea: Don't guess Powell's expression; watch rate expectations, the dollar, and the market's actual reaction to the news. $GRASS
