Bitcoin’s most frustrating market isn’t necessarily a crash. It’s when every day makes you think “it’s about to rise,” only for you to wake up the next morning and find the price still in the same place.
BTC is hovering around $80,000. Bulls are waiting for a breakout, bears are waiting for a breakdown, while retail traders keep jumping back and forth between the two sides. Buy, and you’re afraid of getting stuck holding the bag; sell, and you’re afraid of missing out. In the end, you find that only trading fees never lose their way.
So, is this a shakeout by the big players, or are funds pulling out?
First, let’s consider the possibility of a shakeout. If selling pressure gradually weakens as the price dips, then the price quickly reclaims key support, and trading volume increases on the rebound, the market may be absorbing selling pressure. This kind of move could lay the groundwork for a later rebound.
But if each rebound reaches a lower high and volume fails to confirm it, the so-called “shakeout” may just be bulls comforting themselves. The market won’t automatically push prices up just because you believe in a bull market.
Also keep an eye on the derivatives market. If highly leveraged positions become concentrated in one direction, even small price moves could trigger a cascade of liquidations, turning an ordinary pullback into a sudden plunge.
So, rather than guessing what the big players are thinking, watch three signals: whether support holds, whether the rebound comes with higher volume, and whether the price can break above recent highs.
My view is that sideways trading is neither a bullish nor a bearish signal in itself. It just means the market is choosing a direction, and we don’t have to rush to choose one for it.
Remember: you can miss a rally, but you don’t need to turn every price move into a trade just to prove how smart you are. $HIVE
