There’s an interesting shift in the AI industry: A few years ago, everyone was comparing whose model was smarter. Now, more and more people are asking how much that intelligence is actually worth.
If Anthropic lists on Nasdaq under $ANT, the commercial prospects of AI will likely be a key focus for investors. After all, impressive benchmark scores can’t directly pay employees’ salaries; what actually gets companies to pay is whether AI can solve problems, improve efficiency, and even generate new revenue.
For example, if Claude can help programmers write code faster, assist companies with document processing, and automate some repetitive tasks, customers aren’t just buying an AI product—they’re buying an efficiency tool.
But there’s another side to the story. Enterprise customers aren’t charities; they won’t pay extra every month just because a model gives polite answers. Procurement teams care about how much costs are reduced, whether performance is consistent, whether data is secure, and who is responsible if something goes wrong.
More realistically, AI services can easily fall into price competition. If the capabilities of different models gradually converge and customers can switch providers at any time, technological leadership alone may not be enough to sustain high profits over the long term. #每周来晒 and #Anthropic files for U.S. IPO
In my view, after Anthropic goes public, the market should focus less on how many things AI can do and more on which things customers are willing to keep paying for.
Being able to demonstrate a feature is technical strength; getting customers to renew is commercial strength; making customers unable to do without your product while still making money yourself—that’s a real moat.
AI’s ultimate proving ground isn’t a product launch; it’s the customer’s payment page.
After all, users can watch the tech revolution for free, but investors ultimately want someone to pay for it.
