Gold is a very special player in financial markets: when the economy is unsettled, people think of it; when inflation rises, people think of it; when the dollar weakens, people still think of it.
But here’s the question: if all these positive factors appear at the same time, is gold guaranteed to rise?
Of course not. Gold pays no interest, and when real interest rates rise, the opportunity cost of holding gold typically increases; if the dollar strengthens, gold prices may also come under pressure. However, factors such as geopolitical risks, safe-haven demand, and central bank gold purchases can also affect gold prices.
With tomorrow’s FOMC decision, gold may face three different scenarios.
Scenario one: The Fed turns dovish. If policy guidance suggests that interest rates may fall in the future, and real yields and the dollar weaken in tandem, gold may find support.
Scenario two: The Fed turns hawkish. If inflationary pressure forces the Fed to maintain a tightening bias, rising real yields may weigh on gold prices. Gold’s safe-haven halo is still there, but in the short term it also has to face the reality of funding costs.
Scenario three: The market has already priced it in. Even if the Fed sends a dovish signal, if the market has already bet on easing, gold may see a “sell the news” reaction. Investors may expect fireworks only to hear a single salute in the end—it’s not impossible.
Pre-decision market reports show that gold has also recently been affected by wait-and-see sentiment ahead of the Fed decision
So when looking at gold tomorrow, the key is not simply to guess whether there will be a rate cut, but to watch how the dollar, U.S. real yields, and safe-haven demand move together.
Gold is not an ever-rising safe, BTC is not an ever-rising liquidity gauge, and U.S. stocks do not automatically rally at the push of a rate-cut button.
The Fed is responsible for announcing the answer; the market is responsible for coming up with a new question. What is truly worth watching out for is often not the decision itself, but everyone thinking they have already guessed the answer. $SPCX
I don't think so. Price is currently testing weekly and monthly resistance levels, where RSI is also overbought. A rejection here could cause a sharp drop.$BTC
