Can BTC break through the ceiling? The Fed not cutting rates isn’t the scary part—the real fear is it waking the market from its “rate-cut dream”!
Bitcoin has an interesting trait: in a bull market, it’s like a superhero in financial markets; when faced with macro headwinds, it can become the “center of attention” among risk assets.
Whether BTC can make a move after this FOMC decision hinges on whether the Fed loosens its grip on risk appetite.
Pre-meeting reports show that Bitcoin is currently in a wait-and-see mood ahead of the Fed decision, with price swings also being driven by macro expectations.
If the Fed sends dovish signals, markets may once again bet on lower financing costs ahead. A weaker dollar, falling real yields, or improved risk appetite could all give BTC a boost. After all, when investors find cash less appealing, volatile assets can easily return to their radar.
But here’s the catch: rate-cut expectations being bullish for BTC doesn’t mean BTC is guaranteed to rise.
If the Fed shifts toward easing because of recession risks, markets may first worry about corporate earnings, liquidity pressures, and sell-offs in risk assets. In that case, BTC could take a punch first and only then consider the macro logic.
Conversely, if the Fed stays focused on fighting inflation and signals that rates need to remain high for longer, leveraged investors may reassess risk, and short-term trading could get even choppier.
So when watching BTC tomorrow, don’t just ask, “Will they cut rates?” Ask three more questions: Where is the dollar headed? What about real yields? Are markets willing to take on risk?
After all, Bitcoin isn’t afraid of a good story. What it fears is the money suddenly saying halfway through: “Sorry, I’m out.”
