Surged 4% and even triggered the “sidecar”! South Korea’s stock market suddenly hit the gas—are semiconductors about to take off again?
How long has South Korea’s stock market been holding this in? The KOSPI surged more than 4% at one point, triggering even the “sidecar” mechanism for program trading. Semiconductor heavyweights such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix rallied together, and the market instantly switched from “long faces” to “beaming smiles.”
The so-called sidecar mechanism does not mean a full market suspension. Rather, when market volatility reaches specified thresholds, program buy orders are temporarily suspended for 5 minutes to cool trading down. Put simply, the market is moving too fast, so the exchange steps in to say: “Don’t push—line up!”
But here’s the question: Is this rally the start of a new market trend, or just a sentiment-driven rebound after the previous sharp decline?
On one hand, demand from the AI industry for high-performance memory chips remains a key focus for South Korean semiconductor companies. If orders, earnings expectations, and export data continue to improve, the share price gains may have fundamental support.
On the other hand, a sharp rally after a plunge may simply reflect investors buying at lower prices and pulling oversold stocks back up. A 4% gain in one day does not mean there will be a 4% windfall every day going forward.
My view: It’s fine to applaud the rebound, but don’t rush to treat it as an entry ticket to a bull market. What really deserves attention is whether trading volume, foreign investor flows, and semiconductor companies’ earnings can keep the momentum going.
After all, the most expensive lessons in the stock market often come from one phrase: “This time is definitely different!”$SOL #韩国KOSPI涨超4%
