What’s Behind KOSPI’s 4% Surge? Retail Investors Are Still Watching, but Has Smart Money Already Acted?
What’s interesting about this rebound in the Korean stock market isn’t just how much the index has risen, but who’s buying and who’s selling.
KOSPI surged more than 4% intraday, triggering the buy-sidecar mechanism, while heavyweight stocks such as Samsung Electronics and SK hynix rose sharply. This kind of market action can easily create the illusion that everyone else is making money and you’ve missed out again.
Don’t rush to kick yourself just yet. The sidecar mechanism being triggered means the market experienced sharp volatility over a short period; it doesn’t mean the exchange has officially declared a bull market. It’s a measure to stabilize trading, not a guarantee that prices will keep rising.
To judge whether investors are seriously bullish, you should watch at least three signals.
First, are foreign investors buying consistently? If it’s just a one-day bout of concentrated buying to cover positions, the rebound may come and go quickly.
Second, is the rally spreading from a handful of heavyweight stocks to more sectors? If the index is glowing red while most stocks barely move, the rally may not have a solid foundation.
Third, have earnings expectations for semiconductor companies improved? Money can push share prices higher, but it can’t create profits for companies indefinitely.
My view is that the return of capital is worth paying attention to, but you shouldn’t simply translate the moves of big investors into “buy with your eyes closed.”
Here’s the funny thing about markets: when prices rise, everyone thinks they’re an investing genius; when they fall, everyone says they saw it coming.
Truly mature investors don’t try to guess who’s the smartest. They look at whether the trend is sustainable, whether the risks are manageable, and whether their entry price is reasonable.$DATA #韩国KOSPI涨超4%
