Whenever there’s a trading competition, someone thinks: whoever has the highest returns is the best trader.
Sounds reasonable, but think about it: that’s like watching a basketball game and judging who played best all game based only on who made the final three-pointer.
Short-term results do matter, but an impressive return may also include market tailwinds and an element of luck. What’s also worth paying attention to is how much risk traders take on, whether they stick to their strategy, and whether they can stay consistent through continued volatility.
The GateWCTCS9 Global Trading Competition is not only a stage for showcasing trading ability, but also a mirror reflecting trading habits.
Some are good at catching trends, some prefer short-term trading, some pursue offensive efficiency, while others place more emphasis on risk control. Different strategies have their own strengths. What matters is whether a strategy suits you—not whether you immediately follow the crowd just because others are making money.
My view is clear: focusing only on profit rankings can make it easy to overlook risk; focusing only on achieving results may also make you forget why you started trading.
The market isn’t an autosave system in a game. If you make a mistake, you may not be able to press the restart button. During the competition in particular, be clear about how much you can afford to risk, manage your position size reasonably, and don’t blindly increase leverage to chase rankings.
If you want to prove yourself in GateWCTCS9, courage alone isn’t enough. You also need a strategy, discipline, and, more importantly, the ability to say “no” when faced with temptation.
What do you think is the most important quality for an excellent trader? Judgment, execution, or risk control? Join the discussion in the comments!
