Gold was supposed to be a safe haven when markets are stormy. But this time, even it couldn't withstand selling pressure. The price fell below $4,000 per troy ounce. And you know what interested me most? Not the decline itself, but why investors started selling even a defensive asset.

📉 On October 23, gold fell to around $3,975 per ounce. Over the week, the price lost about 4%, its strongest weekly decline since June. Today, October 26, the market has already partially recouped its losses, and the price has climbed back above $4,000. But does this mean the decline is over? It's too early to draw that conclusion.

🤔 Why did gold come under pressure? Several factors converged at once:

• Higher oil prices fueled inflation concerns.
• The market began pricing in the possibility of tighter US Federal Reserve policy.
• A decline in technology stocks prompted some investors to sell assets for cash.
• After gold's strong rise, some market participants decided to take profits.
• When many people sell at the same time, even a popular defensive asset can lose value sharply.

💡 To me, this situation shows once again that the word “defensive” doesn't mean “always goes up.” Gold can indeed help diversify investments, but short-term moves depend on many factors. Sometimes investors sell even what they usually buy during times of uncertainty. So I wouldn't rush to call this either a catastrophe or a ready-made buying opportunity.

📊 Now it's important to watch a few things:

• The $4,000 level — whether gold can hold above it.
• US Fed decisions and signals about future interest rates.
• New US inflation data.
• Oil prices, since they affect inflation expectations.
• How buyers behave after the recent decline: will they start returning to the market more actively?

📈 The price recovery above $4,000 already looks interesting, but one bounce isn't enough to call a trend reversal. If buyers remain active, gold may continue to recover. But if rate expectations worsen again, the pressure could return. For now, I'd watch the price reaction closely rather than try to guess every next move.

🌍 The most interesting thing is that gold, Bitcoin, and cash behave differently during market instability. Each asset has its own risks, and none guarantees peace of mind. To me, the main thing is to understand why the market is moving, avoid giving in to panic, and not make decisions based only on loud headlines.

💬 Now I'm curious to hear your opinion: what would you choose in the current situation — gold, Bitcoin, or cash? And do you see gold's drop below $4,000 as a temporary correction or the start of a deeper decline? Write in the comments — it'll be interesting to compare our views.
