#国际油价高位震荡 #Gate广场万圣节 If oil prices remain elevated, U.S. stocks are usually hit first, especially high-valuation tech stocks. Gold’s reaction is more complex, while crypto markets usually come later.
As of October 23, Brent crude settled at $116.72/barrel and WTI at $103.27/barrel, both near six-month highs.
If oil prices remain elevated, the transmission sequence is roughly:
· First wave: U.S. stock earnings expectations cool.
Rising energy costs squeeze corporate profits, while high interest rates weigh on tech stock valuations. On October 23, the Dow fell 1.24% and the S&P 500 fell 0.52%, with pressure on tech stocks already emerging.
· Second wave: Gold is weighed down by real interest rates.
Higher oil prices push up inflation, prompting markets to price in “the Fed keeping interest rates high.” Rising Treasury yields and a stronger dollar weaken the appeal of non-yielding gold. On October 23, spot gold fell below $4,000/ounce, showing that interest rate pressures temporarily outweighed geopolitical safe-haven demand.
· Third wave: Risk appetite in crypto markets contracts.
Bitcoin and Ethereum are more sensitive to liquidity and leverage. Higher interest rate expectations driven by oil prices, combined with a tech stock correction, will prompt investors to reduce high-risk positions. Bitcoin has recently approached the $80k mark.
So, in the early stages of elevated oil prices, watch U.S. stocks first, then gold, and finally crypto markets. What will truly determine the extent of subsequent moves is whether this chain takes hold: rising oil prices → rebounding inflation → delayed rate cuts → a stronger dollar and higher Treasury yields.
If oil prices rise quickly, U.S. stocks usually move first; if oil prices stay elevated for a long time, gold may show a clear divergence first; if a stronger dollar, falling tech stocks, and tightening liquidity occur together, volatility in crypto markets will rise significantly. #WCTCS9
