📈 BTC Battles for $80,000: Key Levels, FOMC, and Earnings in Focus

Bitcoin is currently fighting to hold the $80,000 psychological level, trading near $80,205 (-0.45%) with a 24h range of $79,373 – $80,951. The 4H chart shows a clear bearish structure: BTC broke below its ascending support trendline after failing to clear the $84,902 resistance, and it remains below all major short-term moving averages (7, 20, 50 SMA and EMA-12/26). The 1D chart shows a similar picture-price is pinned under the Bollinger midline ($82,075) with the lower band at $79,954.

Key Technical Levels

· Immediate support: $79,241 – $79,578 (lower Bollinger band / recent swing low)
· Strong support: $78,451, then $76,200–$77,000 (50 SMA on higher timeframe)
· Immediate resistance: $81,308 – $81,739
· Major resistance: $82,077 – $84,000 (where the failed breakout occurred)

Momentum is neutral-to-soft: RSI sits at ~43, and the MACD histogram is flat near zero, signaling that bearish momentum has paused but not reversed. The Stochastic is oversold, which can precede a short-term bounce, but in a trending decline, oversold conditions can persist. Funding rates are neutral (~0.0039%), and data shows 68% of accounts net long - meaning there is still crowded long positioning that could fuel a squeeze if support breaks.

Will BTC reclaim $80,000, or continue lower?
The path of least resistance remains lower unless bulls reclaim $82,000+ on strong volume. A daily close below $79,241 would open the door to $77,800–$76,700. Conversely, a breakout above $84,000 would invalidate the bearish structure and bring $85,000–$87,500 back into play.

Key U.S. Events This Week (Oct 27–30)

· Tuesday, Oct 27: Robinhood / Visa earnings; two-day FOMC meeting begins
· Wednesday, Oct 28: FOMC rate decision (2:00 PM ET) + Microsoft / Alphabet earnings
· Thursday, Oct 29: Amazon / Coinbase Q3 earnings + U.S. Q3 GDP Advance Estimate + September PCE
· Friday, Oct 30: ExxonMobil / Chevron earnings + U.S. Q3 Employment Cost Index

FOMC Rate Decision – What to Expect
The Fed is overwhelmingly expected to hold rates steady at 3.75% – 4.00% on Wednesday, according to CME FedWatch (≈90.6% probability of no change). This follows a 25 bp hike in September. The market focus will be on Chair Kevin Warsh’s press conference for any signal on the December meeting—where a 25 bp hike is currently priced at ~67% probability. A hawkish tone (even while holding) would likely pressure BTC toward the $78K–$79K support zone; a neutral or dovish tilt could spark a relief rally toward $82K–$84K.

My take: I’m staying neutral until BTC either reclaims $82,000 with volume or breaks below $79,200. Buying the dip here is tempting given the oversold Stochastic, but the failed breakout at $84K and the earnings/FOMC risk this week argue for patience. Shorting into $79K support also offers poor risk/reward. For now, the sidelines are the safest trade.

How are you positioning—buying the dip, shorting the breakdown, or waiting for FOMC? 👇
