Evergrande once donated over $100 million to Harvard; now liquidators are seeking to recover $2 million

On October 22, the Financial Times reported that liquidators handling Evergrande’s assets and pursuing claims on behalf of creditors have sent Harvard University a repayment demand for $2 million from a 2020 research grant. The two sides are currently negotiating.
The liquidation report disclosed that Evergrande also paid the university about $156 million in 2013 and 2016, part of which went toward establishing research centers and securing naming rights.
The liquidators said they could not find a clear business rationale for these large payments, and the company appears not to have benefited from them.

Spent 156 million on naming rights, but there’s not even a trace of the research center. Boss Xu really is a philanthropist
