Today’s U.S. tech giants look like a group of wealthy people charging into the future on their credit cards: buying servers, building data centers, stockpiling chips, and poaching AI talent with high salaries.
The more aggressively they spend, the more excited investors get? Not so fast—the bill will come due sooner or later.
In late October 2026, the market is closely watching earnings from tech giants such as Microsoft, Alphabet, and Amazon, as well as their AI capital spending plans. Estimates suggest that this year’s combined capital spending on these areas by major cloud computing companies could reach about $800 billion. The real test is whether these investments can translate into revenue and profits. Source: Reuters
The AI story is certainly compelling, but investors must ask three questions: How much are customers willing to pay? Can new revenue cover computing costs? And when will these massive investments generate returns?
If revenue growth can’t keep up with costs, today’s AI stars may face valuation pressure tomorrow. Conversely, companies that can prove their business models work are more likely to command a sustained premium.
Remember, capital markets love dreams most, but in the end, profits are what pay the bills. AI can change the world, but it can’t be responsible for burning money without making money forever.
Do you think AI investment is at the golden starting point, or has the race to see who can break even first already begun? $NVDA
