🔥 Google falls for 4 straight days! At $320.21, it nears its previous low—can $314.90 hold?
Trading focus: $GOOGL $MSFT $AMZN
Google parent Alphabet will report its 2026 Q3 earnings after the U.S. market closes on October 28.
On October 23, GOOGL closed at $320.21, down for 4 consecutive trading days. Its intraday low on July 23 was $314.90, just about 1.7% below the current price.
My concern is no longer just why Google is falling, but whether it will break below its previous low this time!
📊 I. Fundamentals aren't bad, so why is the market still selling?
First, last quarter's figures: revenue was $119.8 billion, up 24% year over year; Google Cloud revenue was $24.8 billion, up 82%; and search revenue grew 17%.
Business growth is still solid, but another set of figures has the market recalculating.
Q2 capital expenditures reached $44.9 billion, with free cash flow at approximately negative $5.9 billion; full-year capital expenditure guidance was raised to $195 billion–$205 billion.
In addition, adjusted Q2 EPS was $2.85, slightly below market expectations. Reported EPS reached $9.11, but was heavily affected by approximately $98 billion in net other income (mainly unrealized gains on equity investments). It cannot simply be taken to mean that the profitability of the core business suddenly improved significantly.
That's the contradiction: AI business is growing rapidly, but investment is also increasing. The market wants to see not only revenue growth, but also when these investments will translate into profits and cash flow.
⚠️ II. What concerns did Pichai's remarks trigger?
In a recent interview, Google CEO Pichai said that Google Cloud sometimes gives up some short-term revenue to support cutting-edge AI research and development.
My understanding is that Google is allocating limited computing resources between commercial revenue from external cloud customers and the computing power needed for internal AI research and development.
This doesn't mean Google Cloud's business is already in trouble. On the contrary, AI research and development could strengthen Google's competitiveness in the future.
But from a trader's perspective, what concerns me more is: how much long-term return will sacrificing short-term revenue ultimately bring?
This may intensify market concerns about capital expenditures and cash flow, but the entire stock decline cannot be attributed to this interview alone.
🎯 III. My trading plan: $314.90 is the key level for now
The share price is now close to July's previous low. I won't assume it has bottomed just because it has fallen a lot, nor will I bet in advance that the previous low will definitely hold just because the price is nearing it.
📌 Plan 1: Break below $314.90 and continue lower.
If the share price breaks decisively below the previous low, fails to recover it by the close, and then faces resistance on a rebound, I won't rush to buy the dip. The former support could turn into resistance, so I'll first watch for a new price structure.
📌 Plan 2: A false breakdown, followed by a recovery.
If the share price dips below $314.90 and quickly recovers, then breaks above short-term resistance and holds on a retest, only then would I consider a small long position.
Note: A single lower wick doesn't indicate a reversal, and certainly doesn't justify directly calling it so-called “shaking out weak hands.” Confirmation from the subsequent price structure matters more than guessing what the money is doing.
📌 Plan 3: Good earnings news, but the share price doesn't rise.
If Q3 results are good but the share price pulls back after an initial rise, or even continues to weaken, that suggests the market may be more concerned about capital expenditures, profit margins, and cash flow. In that case, I won't force a long position just because I'm positive on the fundamentals.
📌 IV. What should we watch in the early hours of October 29?
In the early hours of October 29, Beijing/Singapore time, Google will report its Q3 earnings.
I'll focus on four things: search and advertising growth, Cloud growth and profit margins, whether capital expenditure guidance is raised again, and whether free cash flow improves.
I won't bet on a direction before earnings, and I won't chase the first big green candle after the report. First, I'll watch the market reaction, then wait for confirmation from the price structure.
My conclusion: $314.90 is an important level to watch, but it's not a guaranteed floor. A break below doesn't mean a crash is inevitable, and holding doesn't mean an immediate rebound.
Breakout → retest → hold → follow through.
Don't guess the bottom or bet on the numbers. Let the market give the answer.
How do you think Google will move this time?
A. $314.90 holds, and a rebound begins 🚀
B. Breaks below decisively and continues to correct 📉
C. Good news is priced in; the price rises then pulls back ☕
D. Don't bet on earnings; wait for the structure to confirm 🛡️
