Tesla deliveries are surging, but profits are another test! How much longer can Musk keep telling the autonomous-driving story?
More cars sold, more money earned? Tesla is giving the market a math problem instead.
Tesla delivered 486,500 vehicles in the third quarter—a very impressive figure. But what investors really care about is not just how many cars were sold, but how much profit Tesla keeps from each one. After all, sales are the show, profit is the substance, and cash flow is the wallet.
What deserves even more attention is autonomous driving, Robotaxi, and humanoid robots. They could become new growth engines for Tesla in the future, or they could remain major cash burners for a while. The technology demos are exciting, but the road from demo videos to revenue at scale is blocked by regulation, cost, safety, and user willingness to pay.
My view: When looking at Tesla, don’t focus only on delivery numbers. Look more closely at whether its automotive business can maintain its profit margins and whether autonomous driving can truly deliver commercial value.
If the traditional automotive business remains under pressure while new businesses fail to contribute profits, even the grandest story needs cash flow to keep going.
Discussion: Are you buying Tesla for its car sales, or betting on the future of autonomous driving?$MU #美股财报季
