The digital asset market is under pressure again today. $BTC briefly tested $85,000 before sharply retracing and momentarily breaking the psychological level of $81,000, hitting a local low of $80,935. At the time of writing, the price has stabilized around $81,900, but the 24-hour decline still stands at around 1.1%.
Key takeaway: This pullback occurred amid a deterioration in global risk appetite. Asian stock indices, including the CSI 300, entered a technical correction, and S&P 500 futures are trading in the red. Pressure on the tech sector (Nasdaq -2.6%) is directly translating into cryptocurrencies, which are historically the most sensitive to any changes in liquidity.
📉 Technical Analysis of BTC/USDT (Multi-Timeframe)
Looking at the higher timeframes (1D and 4H), the picture is as follows:
· Daily chart (1D): The price is squeezed between the lower boundary of the Ichimoku cloud (~$81,180) and the 50-day moving average. Momentum indicators (MACD) remain in negative territory, but the histogram is converging toward zero, indicating a fading downward momentum. The Stochastic oscillator is attempting to turn upward, but the signal is weak so far.
· 4-hour chart (4H): The price is trading in the lower half of the Bollinger Bands, confirming the bearish sentiment. However, we see the formation of local support in the $80,600 – $81,100 area. This is the range that has repeatedly prevented a deeper decline.
Key levels:
· Resistance: $82,350 (R1), $83,510 (R2). To change the short-term trend, bulls need to secure a position above $82,930.
· Support: $81,180 (S1), $80,000 (S2, critical level).
It is also worth noting the liquidation picture: over the past 24 hours, long positions worth more than $450 million were forcefully closed (about 89.9% of all liquidations). This means the market has gone through a "flush" of overheated long leverage, and selling pressure may now ease. Meanwhile, large holders (whales) continue to accumulate positions, creating fundamental support.
📅 Impact of Macroeconomic Data (S&P Global Services PMI)
The main event today will be the release of the preliminary S&P Global Services PMI for the U.S. at 13:45 UTC (9:45 ET). The consensus forecast suggests a decline to 57.9 from the previous reading of 58.8. Any significant deviation from the forecast could trigger a spike in volatility across all markets, including crypto:
· If the data comes in stronger than expected: This will reinforce the view of a prolonged restrictive Fed policy, which could trigger further USD strength and pressure on risk assets, including BTC.
· If the data comes in weaker than expected: Conversely, this will give the markets hope for a softer regulatory stance, supporting risk appetite and potentially helping BTC recover.
🔮 Friday Forecast
Given the current technical picture and the upcoming macro release, the most likely scenario for Friday is consolidation in the $80,500 – $82,500 range.
The market has already priced in some of the negative sentiment related to the global flight from risk. If PMI data comes in neutral or weak, we might see an attempt to rebound toward the upper end of the range ($82,500 – $83,000). However, a confident breakout of this zone will require an additional catalyst. If the PMI delivers a "hawkish" surprise, a retest of the $80,000 level is not ruled out, and a break below it would open the way to $79,500.
