Institutions are slowly buying crypto through ETFs, while on the other side, as soon as the price ticks up a little, a huge wave of sell orders comes crashing down. Many people who were underwater and have finally broken even, along with those who made money buying the dip at lower prices, are all selling into the rebound. The incoming funds are being offset by this selling pressure, leaving buyers and sellers evenly matched, so the price naturally gets stuck moving sideways.
There’s another key factor: the Fed’s rate decision meeting is about to begin, and the situation in the Middle East is also unstable, so no one feels certain about what’s ahead. Most institutions entering the market now are gradually building positions through dollar-cost averaging, rather than pouring money in aggressively to drive prices up. Their goal is to support the bottom, not send the market soaring.
So don’t assume that ETF inflows mean a massive bull market is about to take off. This signal only means that big money isn’t continuing to flee and the risk of a sharp drop has decreased; it doesn’t mean prices are about to surge.
Going forward, watch two things: either selling pressure gradually eases, or ETF inflows pick up another gear.
