SpaceX enters its third-quarter earnings announcement with investors facing one major question: Is the company converting its enormous AI and connectivity investments into sustainable revenue, or is the market pricing in too much future growth too early?

With SPCX trading near $144.55, tonight’s report could become an important test of investor confidence. I believe the headline numbers matter, but management’s explanation of AI monetization, capital spending and future financing needs could ultimately determine the stock’s direction.

1. The Price Setup: A Significant Pullback

SPCX closed Friday at $146.03 after losing more than 10% over the week. The stock previously rallied from approximately $105 in August to nearly $176 in early October.

At $144.55, it is around 18% below its recent high while remaining approximately 38% above its August low. This puts the stock in a critical decision zone, where earnings could determine whether buyers return or selling pressure continues.

2. Revenue and Earnings Expectations

Bloomberg consensus projects $12.89 billion in revenue, adjusted earnings per share of approximately $0.149, and EBITDA of $6.62 billion.

Analysts also expect EPS to improve from a loss of $0.09 in Q2 to a profit of roughly $0.13–$0.15. If achieved, this would represent an important profitability milestone following the company's public listing.

Q2 revenue reached $7.81 billion, up 92% year over year. The latest revenue forecast implies approximately 65% sequential growth, making execution especially important.

3. AI Could Become the Biggest Revenue Driver

The most important detail is the expected revenue mix. AI revenue is forecast at approximately $6.4–$6.47 billion, compared with $2.56 billion in Q2. Connectivity revenue is projected at $4.84 billion, versus $4.29 billion previously.

Together, these two segments would represent roughly 88% of expected revenue. Analysts also anticipate approximately 14.3 million consumer Starlink subscribers.

In my view, the key question is whether AI demand can translate into recurring, profitable business rather than simply requiring increasingly expensive infrastructure.

4. Capital Spending Is the Major Risk

SpaceX reportedly spent $18.4 billion on capital expenditures in Q2, including $15.83 billion on AI infrastructure. The company has also discussed plans to raise approximately $40 billion to purchase Nvidia AI chips.

These investments could strengthen its long-term competitive position, but they also increase financing requirements. With the reported price-to-sales ratio near 155 times, investors may demand convincing evidence that future growth can justify the valuation.

5. Three Earnings Scenarios to Watch

Bullish scenario: Revenue exceeds $13 billion, EPS reaches at least $0.15, and AI revenue beats expectations. Strong guidance and disciplined spending could bring $150 into focus, followed by the implied $156 upper range.

Neutral scenario: Results broadly match consensus. The reaction could depend on management's outlook, AI capacity utilization, financing plans and Starlink subscriber growth.

Bearish scenario: Revenue disappoints, AI monetization slows, or capital expenditure guidance increases substantially. A failure to hold $140 could expose the $133 area, based on the options-implied range.

Options markets suggest a potential earnings-related move of approximately 7.8%, although estimates vary from 5.3% to 6.8%. These are estimates, not guaranteed price boundaries.

6. Catalysts Beyond the Headlines

I would listen closely for updates on Starlink Mobile, the reported $8 billion wireless-spectrum plans, FCC approval for 15,000 additional next-generation satellites, subscriber growth and average revenue per user.

Analyst sentiment remains positive overall, with a reported Moderate Buy consensus based on 28 Buys, five Holds and two Sells. The average target of $217.50 implies approximately 50% upside from $144.55, while Evercore has reportedly raised its target to $275. However, analyst targets are forecasts, not guarantees.

My Final View

The broader market adds another layer of uncertainty. Tesla earnings, Solana's Alpenglow upgrade, Western Digital's results and the October 27–28 Federal Reserve meeting could influence sentiment. The Nasdaq's recent weakness and Bitcoin near $81,800 also suggest fragile risk appetite.

I would avoid chasing the first after-hours move. Instead, I would assess the earnings details, listen for guidance, monitor the $140 support area and watch whether price action confirms the initial reaction.

For me, this quarter is not simply about beating estimates. It is about proving that SpaceX can turn ambitious AI infrastructure spending into durable earnings growth without creating excessive financial pressure.
