Unitree Robotics Rebounds 18%: Can Earnings Turn the Humanoid Robot Rally Into a Sustainable Trend?

Unitree Robotics delivered one of the most eye-catching moves in China's robotics sector on October 19, rising as much as 18% intraday. In my view, this is more than a price rebound. It highlights how policy support, industry-wide momentum, investor positioning, and earnings expectations are combining to shape the next phase of the humanoid robotics market.

However, the key question is whether this rally can survive once investors move beyond the excitement and begin examining business performance.

From an explosive debut to a sharp correction

Unitree made its Shanghai STAR Market debut on August 19 at 150.8 yuan per share. The stock closed its first trading day at 845 yuan, representing a remarkable 460% gain and a valuation of approximately $50 billion. Nearly 9.8 million valid retail accounts participated in its IPO application, highlighting extraordinary investor interest.

But that excitement quickly met the reality of valuation. Shares nearly halved within weeks. On October 15, the stock closed at 405.10 yuan, valuing the company at approximately 163.849 billion yuan.

Compared with its debut close, the stock had fallen about 52%. The correction demonstrated that even a compelling technology story can experience substantial volatility when expectations rise faster than confidence in future earnings.

Why October 19 changed the picture

Two policy developments helped revive buying interest. China's Ministry of Commerce and eight other departments issued guidance promoting technology-driven commerce, including greater applications of embodied AI in home services and trade logistics.

Separately, the first six national standards for humanoid robots are scheduled to take effect on April 1, 2027.

In my opinion, these developments matter because they address two important questions: where robots could be deployed commercially and how the industry could develop more consistent technical standards.

Unitree surged 16.15% at the close, while its intraday gain reached approximately 18%, with the price approaching 504 yuan. Using that intraday reference, an estimated closing price near 496 yuan suggests a rebound of roughly 22% from the October 15 low.

At that level, shares would remain approximately 41% below the debut close but stand about 229% above the IPO price.

Buying pressure extends beyond one company

Trading data also revealed competing convictions. Three brokerage seats reportedly purchased a combined 164 million yuan of shares, while two seats, including a Goldman Sachs branch, sold approximately 93 million yuan. That implies net buying of around 71 million yuan across those seats.

The broader sector provided additional confirmation. Excluding Unitree, 68.3% of the 458 stocks in Sina's humanoid robot concept advanced. Turnover reached 180.47 billion yuan, accounting for 12.56% of the day's total market turnover.

This suggests the move was supported by wider interest in robotics rather than Unitree alone, although one session cannot establish a lasting trend.

The fundamentals investors must watch

Unitree reportedly had produced approximately 18,000 bipedal humanoid robots cumulatively by July. Its prospectus indicated shipments exceeding 5,500 humanoids in 2025, representing a 32.4% global share. Omdia estimates also placed Unitree and AgiBot together above 70% of approximately 13,000 global humanoid shipments last year.

These figures strengthen the commercial-growth narrative, but production and shipments do not automatically translate into sustainable profits. Earlier analysis suggested a valuation near 147 times annualized sales, illustrating the high expectations investors must reassess.

October 29: The next major test

Unitree's scheduled third-quarter earnings report on October 29 will be crucial. I will focus on revenue growth, margins, order visibility, and evidence of repeatable commercial demand.

My outlook has three scenarios:

- Bullish: Strong results support the rally, with 470–500 yuan becoming an important area to monitor.
- Neutral: Earnings meet expectations, leaving the stock dependent on sector sentiment and trading momentum.
- Bearish: Weak margins or disappointing orders revive selling pressure, bringing the October 15 low near 405 yuan back into focus.

These are conditional scenarios, not guaranteed price targets.

My strategy and broader market view

I would avoid chasing sharp intraday moves and keep position sizes conservative ahead of earnings. Sector breadth, price stability, and financial results matter more than policy headlines alone.

For international investors, another consideration is market access: STAR Market shares are not directly available to most overseas retail investors through ordinary brokerage accounts. Any alternative exposure should be checked carefully for its issuer, structure, regulatory status, and tracking mechanism.

Ultimately, Unitree's rebound reflects growing enthusiasm for embodied AI and humanoid robotics. The next stage depends on whether industrial demand and financial performance can justify elevated expectations.

For traders across Asian technology and crypto markets, this is also a useful reminder: capital can rotate rapidly between themes, but sustainable momentum requires more than excitement.
