1️⃣ Will Tesla beat earnings expectations?
Revenue: Consensus sits at $27.88B(Benzinga Pro) to $28.06B (Electrek), which is essentially flat YoY. There is a case for a slight beat here: Q3 deliveries of 486,532 units beat the analyst consensus by over 24,000 vehicles, and Tesla has beaten revenue estimates in three of the last four quarters.
EPS: Consensus is $0.43–$0.45, down from $0.50 a year ago. A beat is less certain. Tesla has missed EPS estimates in five of the last seven quarters, and in Q2 2026, EPS came in at $0.33 versus a $0.53 consensus as operating margin collapsed to 1.4%.
The key variable is automotive gross margin (excluding credits). Q2 2026 came in at 16.3%, and analysts expect a recovery to the 16.5%–17% range. If margin falls below 16.5%, it signals continued pricing pressure and makes an EPS beat much harder. The Energy segment, however, could act as a stabilizer if it delivers strong deployments and margins. Verdict: A revenue beat is plausible, but an EPS beat remains a coin toss given the margin trajectory.
2️⃣ How will earnings and Robotaxi updates impact $TSLA?
Robotaxi is now the primary valuation driver. TSLA trades at over 200 times this year's expected earnings, and with the core EV business plateauing, the Cybercab/robotaxi program is critical to justifying that multiple.
Operational progress is real but faces regulatory headwinds. The Cybercab fleet in Austin has grown from a handful of vehicles to over 300 in a month (roughly 8x the launch size), logging about 380,000 driverless miles in total. However, NHTSA has opened an audit query into whether the pedal-free Cybercab complies with U.S. safety standards, with Tesla given until Oct. 30 to respond to 21 requests.
The stock is highly sensitive to Robotaxi headlines. After the Cybercab launch event, TSLA jumped 5.42% the next day but then fell 5.92% (wiping out ~$88B in market cap) once investors digested the details and regulatory uncertainty.
Key takeaway: Earnings will set the near-term tone, but any credible timeline for scaling Robotaxi (or a negative regulatory ruling) will likely have an outsized impact on $TSLA post-earnings.
