When people see Tesla's Q3 deliveries beat expectations, their first thought is: Sales are looking good—is the stock about to take off?
Don't rush to pop the champagne for your portfolio. Tesla delivered 486,532 vehicles this quarter, still down 2.1% year over year. The market expects revenue of around $27.88 billion and adjusted EPS of $0.43, but what really deserves close attention is how much the company keeps from each vehicle it sells.
My view is that one of the most important metrics in this earnings report isn't how many cars were sold, but how much the company can still earn after selling them.
If price competition continues and costs are hard to bring down, sales growth may not translate effectively into profits. Conversely, if automotive gross margins stabilize and the energy storage business continues to grow, the market will have reason to reassess the quality of the company's earnings.
Then there's cash flow and capital expenditure. AI, robotics, and autonomous driving all require serious investment. The long-term vision can be ambitious, but investors will also ask: When will these investments start generating returns?
So I wouldn't judge the stock's direction based on deliveries alone. I'd look at automotive gross margin, free cash flow, and management guidance together.
After all, in business, selling more doesn't automatically mean winning—the numbers still have to add up. Otherwise, the more cars you sell, the more the finance team may need coffee to stay alive.
What do you think the market will focus on tonight: sales, margins, or AI investment? Share your reasoning in the comments and let's see who can spot the real focus of this earnings report! #每周来晒 and #特斯拉Q3财报 $TSLA
