Bitcoin at $81,405.9: Warsh Keeps the Fed’s Next Move Uncertain — Is BTC Preparing for a Recovery or Another Drop?

Bitcoin is trading near $81,405.9, keeping traders focused on the connection between US inflation, Federal Reserve policy, Treasury yields, and global risk appetite. Following Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s October 16 IMF fireside chat with Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva in Bangkok, the market has received no clear promise of monetary easing or another rate increase. Instead, the message is that price stability remains the priority, while future decisions depend on incoming economic data.

For crypto investors, this uncertainty creates an important question: can Bitcoin establish a recovery despite persistent inflation, or will tighter financial conditions put additional pressure on prices?

1. Warsh’s Message: Flexibility Without a Clear Rate Signal

Warsh emphasized the Federal Reserve’s commitment to controlling inflation while acknowledging that the global economy has demonstrated greater resilience than expected. He avoided prejudging the upcoming October 27–28 policy meeting or making a firm commitment about December.

This leaves both possibilities open. If inflation cools convincingly, markets could begin anticipating less restrictive monetary conditions. However, persistent price pressures could keep further tightening under consideration.

My view is that traders should distinguish between a central bank remaining flexible and a central bank preparing to cut rates. They are not the same thing.

2. Inflation Is Still the Biggest Challenge

The reported September figures show why the outlook remains complicated. US consumer inflation accelerated to 3.7% year over year from 3.4% in August, while core inflation stood at 2.6%. Producer prices reportedly increased 6.3% annually, highlighting continuing pressure across the production chain.

Energy costs and substantial investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure are also influencing the economic outlook. Warsh recognized AI’s potential to improve productivity over time, although investment in new infrastructure can increase demand in the near term.

For Bitcoin, the distinction matters. Strong economic activity can support investor confidence, but stubborn inflation may keep interest rates higher for longer.

3. BTC at $81,405.9: Why the Dollar and Bond Yields Matter

Bitcoin’s current price reflects a market balancing potential recovery against macroeconomic uncertainty. A weaker US dollar and declining Treasury yields could improve conditions for risk assets, while rising yields and expectations of tighter policy could discourage speculative investment.

Market reporting indicated that the US Dollar Index declined approximately 0.9% on October 16. Although this movement may support the broader risk-asset outlook, it does not prove that Warsh’s remarks alone drove Bitcoin’s performance.

I believe the next move will depend on whether improving financial conditions translate into sustained spot-market buying.

4. Technical Structure: Confirmation Before Confidence

At $81,405.9, Bitcoin needs to demonstrate genuine buying strength rather than relying on optimistic headlines.

A sustained move above recent resistance, supported by rising spot volume, could strengthen the recovery scenario. Conversely, a breakdown below established support, especially with increasing selling pressure, could expose BTC to another downward move.

Traders should also monitor open interest and funding rates. Rising open interest during a rally can indicate new positions entering the market, while excessively positive funding may signal crowded long exposure. During a decline, falling open interest can suggest that leveraged positions are being liquidated.

These indicators provide context, but none predicts the market with certainty.

5. My Outlook: Two Scenarios, One Discipline

The bullish scenario requires easing inflation pressure, a softer dollar, lower yields, and consistent spot demand. The bearish scenario involves persistent inflation, renewed monetary tightening expectations, and a loss of important Bitcoin support levels.

My approach is cautious: I would rather see a confirmed breakout and successful retest than chase a sudden price bounce. Risk management remains essential, particularly when macroeconomic headlines can trigger rapid volatility.

Final Thoughts

Kevin Warsh has kept the Fed’s options open, and Bitcoin remains sensitive to every change in inflation expectations and financial conditions. At $81,405.9, the market is at a point where confirmation matters more than predictions.

The key question is not simply whether BTC can rebound, but whether buyers have enough strength to sustain that recovery. Until the evidence becomes clearer, patience, disciplined position sizing, and careful monitoring of macroeconomic and market indicators remain more valuable than emotional trading.
