#美国9月PPI数据公布 #每周来晒 US September PPI exam begins tonight at 20:30: CPI has already pushed the probability of an October hike to 42%. Will PPI deliver a “final blow” or call a halt?

I. First, the forecast: PPI will likely “remain elevated,” but the key is the “structure”
Market expectations: US September headline PPI is expected to rise around 0.6% m/m, continuing CPI’s “energy-led” characteristic—the inflation pressure at the production end is “significant, but structurally narrow.”
My forecast: The probability of headline PPI exceeding expectations is not high (oil prices have already been partially priced in), but “meeting expectations” itself means inflationary pressure has not eased—the real factor determining the market reaction is core PPI excluding energy:
- Mild core PPI (m/m ≤0.2%): This means producer price increases are just “oil-price bloat,” while CPI’s core acceleration (2.6%) is a consumer-side anomaly rather than a full-chain trend—the market will breathe a sigh of relief
- Core PPI also rises (m/m ≥0.3%): “Smoke upstream + stickiness downstream” confirms full-chain inflation—this is tonight’s biggest shock
When looking at PPI, don’t just see “whether it rose”; look at “whether only oil prices are rising.”

II. Three scenarios, with completely different market reactions

Scenario A: PPI meets expectations (0.5-0.6% m/m, core mild)—the highest-probability scenario
Yesterday’s hawkish CPI reading is already priced in (October hike probability at 42%) → PPI brings no new shock = “bad news fully priced in” → US Treasury yields retreat, BTC holds $82K and stabilizes, and gold stops falling. This is the “false alarm” scenario.
Scenario B: PPI exceeds expectations (m/m ≥0.7%, core ≥0.3%)—a hawkish final blow
“Production-side inflation is also smoking” is confirmed → October hike probability surges to 50-60% → US 30Y Treasury yields hit another new high, the dollar strengthens → gold, US stocks, and BTC all come under pressure, with BTC testing the $80K support line. This is the “final blow” scenario.
Scenario C: PPI comes in below expectations (m/m ≤0.3%)—a dovish surprise
The narrative that “CPI was just oil-price noise” returns → hike expectations cool (the 42% falls) → risk assets rebound, with BTC targeting $85-87K. This is the “putting out the fire” scenario, with the lowest probability but the greatest upside impact.

III. Impact on Federal Reserve expectations: PPI is “confirmation,” not “new evidence”
- October FOMC (at the end of this month): The market is currently pricing in roughly a 42% probability of a hike—if PPI meets expectations, this figure will basically be “locked” around 40%, leaving an October hike undecided; if PPI exceeds expectations, the narrative will immediately change to a “high-probability hike”
- December path: Regardless of whether October brings a hike, the “stickiness” of core inflation (core CPI at 2.6%) has already laid the groundwork for December—PPI changes the “October suspense,” while December’s scenario has basically already been written
- Don’t forget that retail sales data will also be released tonight—“high inflation + strong consumption” = the most hawkish combination; “high inflation + weak consumption” = stagflation concerns (a tug-of-war between hikes and recession, with gold benefiting instead)

IV. BTC
- The $82K lifeline remains unchanged: Holding it = bottom-range consolidation awaiting a rebound; breaking below it = watch $80K, and a further break of $80K = continuation of the downtrend
- Tonight’s strategy: Don’t take a heavy position before the data—take a side after 20:30; don’t jump the gun or go all-in
- Three “post-data” signals: ①Whether core PPI is mild; ②Whether US 30Y Treasury yields hit a new high; ③The strength or weakness of retail sales—look at all three together, not just one figure

V. Conclusion
Tonight’s PPI will likely be “elevated but in line with expectations”—production-side inflationary pressure is real, but oil prices are doing most of the heavy lifting; the real decider is core PPI. If core PPI is mild → the “CPI was noise” narrative returns, BTC stabilizes at $82K and a rebound becomes likely; if core PPI also surges → full-chain inflation is confirmed, and an October hike shifts from “suspense” to “certainty,” with the battle to defend $80K beginning ahead of schedule.

On a night of macro data, volatility is measured in “minutes.” If you fail to control your position size, one data point can teach you a painful lesson. At 8:30 tonight, read the test paper first, then make your move.
