#美国9月CPI即将公布 #每周来晒 Key economic data tonight: U.S. CPI will impact global markets

The market's main focus tonight: the U.S. September Consumer Price Index (CPI), important data affecting expectations for Federal Reserve rate cuts, the dollar's trend, U.S. Treasury yields, gold, U.S. stocks, and commodity futures.
The U.S. September CPI is expected to be released tonight Beijing time (8:30 U.S. Eastern Time). The market previously expected headline year-on-year inflation at around 3.6% and core CPI at around 2.5%.

I. What is CPI?
CPI (Consumer Price Index) reflects changes in the prices of goods and services purchased by households. Simply put: CPI rises → inflationary pressure increases; CPI falls → inflationary pressure eases. The Federal Reserve pays close attention to changes in inflation when setting interest rate policy.

II. Two key data points to watch tonight
1. Core CPI Core CPI excludes fluctuations in food and energy prices, making it more reflective of long-term inflation trends. The market focuses more on this figure.
2. Month-on-month change For example: if prices rise 0.3% this month and 0.6% next month, it indicates that the pace of price increases is accelerating.

III. How will different results affect the market? Scenario one: CPI below expectations For example: expected 3.6%, actual 3.3% The market may conclude: inflation is cooling → pressure on the Federal Reserve to cut rates increases. Impact: dollar↓ U.S. Treasury yields↓ gold↑ U.S. technology stocks↑ risk-asset sentiment improves.
Scenario two: CPI in line with expectations The market reaction is usually limited. Explanation: changes in inflation are in line with market expectations. Funds continue trading on the existing logic.
Scenario three: CPI above expectations For example: expected 3.6%, actual 3.9% The market may worry: inflation is returning → Federal Reserve rate cuts are delayed. Impact: dollar↑ U.S. Treasury yields↑ gold under pressure growth stocks under pressure.

IV. Key trading points tonight
Do not look only at whether CPI is high or low.
The key is: actual data vs. market expectations because the market is not trading the data itself, but rather: “Did the result exceed market expectations?”
The main focus is whether inflation continues to decline and whether expectations for Federal Reserve rate cuts change.
Simply put: CPI below expectations: → rate-cut expectations heat up → generally positive for risk assets
CPI above expectations: → rate-cut expectations cool → market pressure increases
Focus tonight: volatility in the dollar, gold, U.S. stock futures, and commodity markets.
