Gate has partnered with Visa to launch a crypto-linked payment card that will be available across more than 40 countries and territories, connecting digital assets held in Gate accounts to Visa's global payment network. The announcement was made on October 8, 2026, and the card is expected to roll out across those markets in the coming period.
The mechanics of the card are straightforward. When a user makes a purchase, eligible digital assets held in their Gate account are automatically converted into fiat currency at the point of sale. That conversion happens in the background, so the user does not need to manually exchange assets before spending. The card works anywhere Visa is accepted, which covers more than 150 million merchant locations worldwide, both online and in physical stores. Users can apply for and manage the card through the Gate App.
The partnership sits within a broader product called Gate Money, which Gate introduced as a unified financial services application. Gate Money brings together digital assets, fiat currencies, stocks, ETFs, gold, and bank accounts into a single interface within the Gate App. The idea is to reduce the friction that has historically existed between holding crypto and using it for everyday expenses. Instead of moving funds between separate platforms, converting them, and then transferring them to a bank account, users can hold assets in one place and spend them directly when needed.
The automatic conversion feature is the part that makes this practical for daily use. A user who holds Bitcoin or stablecoins in their Gate account can pay for groceries, a meal, or a hotel booking without first selling those assets and waiting for a bank transfer to settle. The conversion happens at the moment of payment, and the merchant receives fiat currency in the normal way. For the user, the experience is similar to using a standard debit or credit card, except the funds are drawn from a crypto balance rather than a bank account.
The card also integrates with existing payment systems. It can be linked to Apple Pay and Google Pay, and it supports payments funded by a range of assets rather than only stablecoins. That design reflects an effort to make the boundary between holding and spending less rigid, so that assets can move between different scenarios without requiring users to convert everything into a single form first.
The partnership with Visa extends Gate's reach into traditional payment infrastructure. Visa's network is one of the largest in the world, and connecting to it gives Gate users a way to spend their assets in places that would otherwise be inaccessible to a crypto-native platform. For Visa, the collaboration adds a new category of cardholder and a new source of transaction volume. For Gate, it extends the utility of the assets held on its platform beyond trading and investment.
The announcement is part of a broader trend in which crypto platforms are building bridges to traditional finance rather than operating as separate ecosystems. The value of that bridge depends on how seamlessly it works in practice. If the conversion process is fast, the fees are reasonable, and the card is accepted widely, it can make digital assets more useful for everyday spending. If the experience is clunky or the costs are high, users will continue to treat crypto as an investment rather than a payment method. The card is expected to launch across the 40-plus markets in the coming period, and the details of its rollout will determine whether it delivers on the promise of connecting digital assets to real-world commerce.
