#RobinhoodAdds$25MBitcoinToBalanceSheet $HOOD
GM ☕ Today's headline is easy to read wrongly, so let me split it into two traders looking at the same stock: the impatient one on the 1H chart and the patient one on the 4H chart. They see different things, and I need both.
The headline first, in my own words
A company put about $25M of BTC on its balance sheet, around 292 coins, and said it's about aligning with the ecosystem, not changing its financial path. The shares slipped about 2%. Quick math: $25M over 292 coins is roughly $85,600 per BTC. BTC is trading closer to 82,900 on my chart this morning, so the position is a few percent underwater already, around $0.8M on paper. That's small, and it's exactly why I don't build a thesis on this headline. It's a signal about attitude, not a change in the company's numbers.
The impatient trader (1H)
Price is about 109.7, sitting right on the 14 and 21 MA (109.06 and 109.88)
The 35 MA at 111.52 and resistance at 112.38 are overhead, and every bounce since late September has been sold into that area
RSI is about 42.5 and the MACD histogram has just turned slightly positive, so the selling is slowing
The purple support is lower at 107.17, and price wicked down toward it, then recovered
His story: "a small bounce is forming, buy it". He may be right, but he's trading inside a down-sloping staircase.
The patient trader (4H)
The stock ran from about 91 in late August to a double top near 126.5 in September, then rolled over. It's down about 13% from that top
Price now sits right on the purple support at 108.47. That level is also close to the halfway point of the whole rally (roughly 108.7), which is exactly where trends often pause or reverse
All three MAs (112.0, 112.3, 113.6) are overhead and sloping down. RSI is about 38 and MACD is still negative
Resistance is far above at 116.29
His story: "this is a pullback to the midpoint of a big move, a decision zone". He's less excited about a quick bounce and more interested in whether 108.5 holds.
Where they agree
Both of them see the same thing: price is at support after a steady slide, and the slide started before this news came out. The stock was already sliding from the early-October spike near 123, so the headline didn't create the move, it arrived in the middle of it. That's why I don't treat the 2% dip as the story.
The macro layer (the admin's topic)
HOOD is a rate- and risk-sensitive name. The Fed is in a hiking cycle and CPI on Oct 14 can change the October odds. If expectations for rates go up, stocks like this feel it before most. If CPI is calm, the support zone has a better chance of holding. Has it been priced in? Partly: the stock has already fallen 13% from the top, so a lot of bad mood is in the price. But a hot CPI is not priced in, so I keep my size smaller this week.
My plan (my own view, not advice)
Bounce long: 108.5 to 109.0
Stop loss: 4H close below 106.8 (under the 1H support and the recent wick)
TP1: 111.5, roughly 1.5R (partial profit, then stop to breakeven)
TP2: 112.4, roughly 1.9R
TP3: 116.3, roughly 4R
Reclaim version: a 4H close above 112.4 would tell me the pullback is over, then 113.6 and 116.3 come into play
If 106.8 breaks: the bounce idea is dead. I step aside, or short a failed retest of 108 to 108.5, targeting 104 and then 102, with a stop above 109.8
Small size, low leverage, orders at levels. I also check how this product tracks the underlying market hours before sizing, because gaps can jump over a stop.
My check-in: calm, light positions, spot untouched, cash kept aside on purpose. I'm not in a hurry to catch the exact bottom.
So who's right, the 1H trader or the 4H trader? For me, the answer is: the 4H sets the plan, the 1H only decides the timing.
Which chart do you trust more when they disagree?
