#BTCBreaksThrough$86,000 The Breakout That Reversed: Bitcoin Drops Back Below $84K and Goes Oversold

The $86,000 breakout that defined Bitcoin's week has now fully reversed. BTC touched $86,716 earlier this week, but it has since slid back through $84,000 and is trading near $83,780, down about 2.2% on the day with the one-hour RSI dropping to roughly 27.8, squarely in oversold territory. The failed breakout is now the story, and it changes the levels that matter.

The reversal is showing up across the tape. The one-hour CCI has plunged to about -208, and the Williams %R is pinned at -100, both signaling an extended short-term selloff rather than a mild pullback. Open interest has been stable to slightly higher over 24 hours, which means the move is not a leverage flush it is spot-driven selling, with the taker buy/sell ratio at about 0.91 showing sellers in control. The breakout momentum that carried BTC through $86,000 is gone, and the market is now testing the downside.

The levels have shifted. The 4-hour trend line, which was acting as support around $84,600 in prior sessions, has been broken and has now rolled up to $85,044 meaning that level is now overhead resistance rather than a floor. The first real support below is the $83,500 to $83,600 zone, which aligns with the recent low, and the daily trend line at $82,749 is the structural support that defines the higher-timeframe uptrend. As long as BTC holds above $82,749, the pullback is a retracement within an uptrend, not a reversal — but the margin is narrowing.

The macro backdrop explains the reversal. The breakout through $86,000 was driven by the dovish repricing after the weak jobs report, and that tailwind has now been spent. A stronger dollar, sticky long-end yields, and renewed geopolitical risk around the Middle East are all weighing on the tape, and Bitcoin, as the most rate-sensitive major crypto, is feeling it first. The ETF picture adds no relief spot Bitcoin ETFs posted a modest net outflow in the latest session, confirming the marginal bid is choppy.

The honest read is that Bitcoin's uptrend is intact but the breakout failed, and the two are not contradictory. The higher-timeframe structure still points up as long as $82,749 holds, but the failure to hold $86,000 means the market needs to rebuild momentum before it can try again. Watch $83,500 as the immediate support and $85,044 as the first resistance and treat any reclaim above $86,700 as the confirmation the failed breakout was a shakeout, not the start of something deeper.
