Bullish

In the week that a breach exposed thousands of bank customers' data, attendance fell at Korea Blockchain Week (KBW), an event promising to reshape finance.

Around 25,000 Shinhan Bank customers were affected. Traces of an AI penetration-testing tool were found on a suspected attack server, but its use remains unconfirmed.

Web3 is no safe haven. Chainalysis says AI can accelerate vulnerability analysis of contracts without publicly verified source code. CertiK puts total Q3 security losses at about $1.27 billion, up 54.4% from Q2. Korean exchanges recorded 108 delistings in H1, counting each exchange separately.

KBW's organizers reported 12,500 attendee visits across the event, versus 28,000 last year. AI agents were prominent even on that stage.

Money is moving toward AI too. Crunchbase says AI captured 80% of global venture funding in Q1. The Block's year-to-date figures in early August showed crypto deal counts down nearly 64% from the same period last year.

As attacks become more sophisticated, verifying identity, ownership, and authority matters more. Yet Web3, which has long argued for those values, struggles to attract attention and capital. There is a gap between what we believe is needed and where the market puts its money.

Talking about value does not make capital follow.

Nor can we blame that gap entirely on the market. If we claim decentralization and verifiability as our strengths, we must answer what they actually protected when it mattered. Recording what happened is not the same as preventing harm.

The promise to reshape finance must be proven not by louder claims, but by systems that actually hold up under attack. $TOWN
