#MarvellJumps4.5% Marvell Jumps 4.5%: The AI Optical Story Behind the Rally

Marvell Technology (MRVL) climbed roughly 4.5% after two announcements that sharpen its position at the center of the AI infrastructure buildout an expanded manufacturing partnership with GlobalFoundries and a new cloud-native security platform with Microsoft. But the move is really a confirmation of a much bigger narrative that has been building all year.

The GlobalFoundries expansion is the key detail. Marvell is increasing capacity for silicon-germanium (SiGe) technology at GlobalFoundries' Burlington, Vermont facility to support growing demand for AI optical connectivity. As data centers scale, the interconnects that move data between accelerators become a bottleneck, and Marvell is one of the few companies with the custom silicon expertise to solve it. Securing dedicated manufacturing capacity is a direct signal that the company sees sustained, significant growth ahead.

The fundamentals back that up. Marvell just posted record fiscal second-quarter 2027 revenue of $2.739 billion, up 37% year over year, with its data center business generating $2.17 billion up 18% sequentially and 46% year over year. Management guided fiscal Q3 revenue to approximately $3.15 billion, implying roughly 75% year-over-year growth, and raised its fiscal 2027 data-center growth outlook to about 60% from a prior 50%. Longer term, the company is pointing toward a fiscal 2028 revenue run-rate near $18 billion.

The stock has been a top AI infrastructure performer, up more than 200% year to date and more than tripling over twelve months. That kind of multiple means the bar is high, and it is why catalysts matter. Marvell's Investor Day on October 6 in New York is the next test investors will watch whether management reaffirms the $18 billion fiscal 2028 outlook, which would signal confidence that AI demand is not slowing.

The risks are real, too. Marvell trades at a premium valuation, gets nearly 80% of revenue from data centers, and has seen sentiment swings whenever AI-sector news turns negative. An insider 10b5-1 sale and broader AI-sentiment wobbles have added short-term noise. But for anyone watching the AI buildout, Marvell's optical interconnect leadership is exactly the kind of pick-and-shovel exposure that compounds through the cycle. The 4.5% jump is a headline the durable story is the capacity expansion behind it.
