#OpenAIAnnualRecurringRevenueNears$70B $OPENAI

OpenAI's Revenue Run Rate Just Jumped 70% in One Quarter, and the Chart Is Already Reflecting the Race With Anthropic

OpenAI's annualized revenue run rate is nearing $70 billion, up more than 70% since the start of Q3, with enterprise sales more than doubling since July and B2B revenue growing over 100% in the same window. On the consumer side, OpenAI added more new revenue in Q3 alone than it added across all of 2025. This is a genuinely sharp acceleration, and it's landing at a very specific moment: right as both OpenAI and Anthropic are preparing for IPOs.

Why the comparison to Anthropic matters here

Only weeks ago, Anthropic's own revenue run rate had reportedly reached around $65 billion, putting it ahead of OpenAI on this specific metric and reinforcing the narrative that Claude had pulled ahead in enterprise adoption. Anthropic's audited 2025 numbers showed revenue growing twelvefold to $4.59 billion for the full year. Now OpenAI is closing that gap quickly, with this quarter's B2B surge doing most of the work. That's the real story here, this isn't just "OpenAI revenue went up," it's "the gap between the two biggest AI labs on the metric investors will use to judge their IPOs just narrowed sharply."

The number that gets left out of most headlines

Axios itself flagged this directly: it couldn't determine details about OpenAI's expenses, which is essential context missing from this revenue story. For reference, OpenAI posted a net loss of $38.5 billion in 2025 on $13.07 billion in revenue that year. So the run rate has gone from roughly $13 billion annualized to nearly $70 billion in a matter of months, which is an extraordinary acceleration, but we have no current read on whether spending has scaled proportionally, faster, or slower than that revenue growth. Given how capital-intensive frontier AI infrastructure is, and given Anthropic's own disclosed plan to spend at least $518 billion over the next decade on compute, I'd assume OpenAI's spending is scaling aggressively too, but assuming isn't the same as knowing, and that's the real gap in this story right now.

What the chart is already telling us

Looking at OPENAIUSDT on Gate, the tokenized instrument is trading at $1,616.64 after touching a high of $1,689.36 today, a sharp move up from the 50-day MA at $1,379.40. RSI sits at 64.86, firm and leaning toward overbought without being extreme, and MACD is strongly positive at 71.29 on the signal line, one of the widest positive readings on this chart going back to the spring.

The structure here is notable: price spent June through August grinding sideways and even declining, testing the $1,100 to $1,200 area multiple times, before breaking out sharply in September and accelerating further today, clearly the market's reaction to this Axios report. That's about as clean a "chart reacts to fundamental catalyst" setup as you'll see, months of consolidation, then a decisive breakout exactly when the underlying revenue story turned dramatically more positive.

Is the valuation reaction justified, or ahead of itself

I think there's a real case for both. The bull case is straightforward: a company more than doubling its enterprise sales base in a single quarter, while consumer revenue for one quarter exceeds an entire prior year, is genuinely rare growth, even in this industry. If that pace is remotely sustainable, the market repricing higher makes sense.

The caution is the same one that applies to basically every company in this sector right now: revenue growth without visibility into spending growth tells you demand exists, but it doesn't tell you whether the business model actually works at scale. Given OpenAI's own 2025 numbers showed an almost $39 billion loss on a much smaller revenue base, the real question investors will need answered before any IPO isn't "how fast is revenue growing," it's "how much narrower is the gap between revenue and total spending now than it was a year ago." That's the number Axios explicitly couldn't get.

What this means for the broader AI IPO race

Both OpenAI and Anthropic timing their most impressive revenue disclosures right around IPO preparation isn't a coincidence, it's exactly when you'd expect a company to want its best growth story in front of investors. That's not a criticism, it's just useful context: revenue run rate figures disclosed pre-IPO deserve the same scrutiny as any other pre-listing disclosure, since they're being selectively surfaced at the moment they'll have maximum impact on valuation conversations.

My take

I'm genuinely impressed by the growth rate here, more than doubling enterprise sales in a single quarter is a real business signal, not just a narrative. But I'd hold off on calling this confirmation that OpenAI's valuation is justified until the expense side of the picture is disclosed with the same clarity as the revenue side. The chart has already made its decision, breaking out sharply on this news, but charts price in stories quickly and can unwind just as fast if the eventual IPO filing reveals spending has outpaced revenue by an even wider margin than expected.

What I'm watching next

Whether OpenAI's own IPO filing, whenever it becomes public, discloses expense figures that either support or undercut this revenue acceleration story. Whether this pace of enterprise growth holds into Q4, or whether Q3 was a one-time catch-up quarter. How Anthropic's own upcoming disclosures compare, since the two companies are now clearly being read against each other by the market. And whether OPENAIUSDT holds this breakout above $1,600 or gives back the move if the RSI's overbought reading resolves with a pullback.

Discussion

Does a 70% quarter-over-quarter jump in revenue run rate change how you value OpenAI, or do you want to see the expense side before drawing any conclusion? And between OpenAI and Anthropic, whose revenue trajectory looks more durable to you heading into their respective IPOs?
