‍$XAUT $FOLD $LAPTOP
Day Three of the FOLD, LAPTOP and XAUT Pools: A Correction and What I'm Actually Watching Now

I want to start this one with a correction, because getting it right matters more than getting it out fast. Yesterday I referred to the LAPTOP token in this Launchpool as "Hunter Biden's Laptop," a meme coin that launched on Base in early September. That was wrong. That specific token crashed over 99% within hours of launch and is now trading at a tiny fraction of a cent with almost no liquidity left, nowhere close to the $0.07 to $0.08 range the Launchpool's LAPTOP has been trading in. These are two separate tokens that happen to share a ticker, and I shouldn't have connected them without verifying first. Lesson taken, moving on with what actually matters here.

Where the APRs stand today

The live APR figures are unchanged from what's been showing the past couple of days: FOLD at 590.76%, LAPTOP at 263.05%, and the XAUT pool sharing 34 XAUT. Since these are recalculated based on how much capital is currently staked, the fact that they've held roughly steady suggests participation has stabilized rather than continuing to climb sharply, which is a different phase than the initial rush right when a pool opens.

What I think matters more at this stage of the event

When a Launchpool first launches, the interesting question is usually "how high is the APR and how fast will it decay." A few days in, with the numbers holding steady, the more useful question becomes "is this a pool I'd stay in, or one where the reward token's own price action would eat into any gains." That's a shift in what actually deserves attention, and it's the lens I'd apply going into the second half of this event.

For anyone already staked, the relevant decision now isn't really about the entry APR anymore, since that's locked in based on when you joined. It's about whether you plan to hold the reward tokens you're accumulating, sell them as they're paid out, or wait until the event ends to decide. That's a call worth making deliberately rather than by default, because FOLD, LAPTOP and XAUT are three very different kinds of assets to be sitting on: a smart contract infrastructure token, a smaller project token, and a gold-backed asset respectively.

How I'd think about each one at this stage

For the XAUT pool, since it's paying out in a gold-backed token, the main variable is really just gold's own price action, not project-specific risk. If gold continues under pressure the way it has recently, the value of what you're earning shrinks even if the token count stays the same. If gold stabilizes or bounces, the opposite is true. I'd treat this pool as a bet on gold's near-term direction more than anything else.

For FOLD, the token itself carries more project-specific risk, since its value depends on adoption of the underlying protocol rather than a broader macro asset like gold. The APR here is the highest of the three, but that's partly compensation for that added uncertainty.

For LAPTOP, without a confirmed and verified identity for the specific project behind this Launchpool's token, I'm not going to speculate on its fundamentals the way I mistakenly did yesterday. What I can say is that its APR sits in the middle of the three pools, and anyone staking here should look up the actual project details directly through the Launchpool page rather than relying on assumptions, mine included.

My honest take three days in

The novelty of "three pools running at once with big APR numbers" has worn off by day three, and what's left is a more practical question: are you comfortable holding whichever token you're earning, for however long you plan to hold it. That's always been the real question with Launchpool-style events, the entry APR just gets the initial attention.

What I'm watching for the rest of the event

Whether the three APR figures stay roughly stable or start drifting as more or less capital enters each pool. How gold behaves given today's PCE data release, since that directly affects the XAUT pool's real value regardless of the token count. And whether FOLD shows any price reaction to broader sentiment shifts, since that's the pool carrying the most project-specific exposure of the three.

Discussion

For anyone staked in these pools, has your plan for the reward tokens changed since day one, are you planning to hold, sell as you receive them, or decide later? And appreciate anyone who caught yesterday's mix-up, always worth double-checking a token identity before writing about it.
