Ethereum Could Become a Neutral Rail for AI Agents

SharpLink CEO Joseph Chalom recently shared an interesting view on the future of AI and crypto.

Speaking with Paul Barron, Chalom said Ethereum could play “a very important role as that uncensorable neutral rail” for AI agents.

The idea is bigger than simply using ETH for payments.

As AI agents become more capable of interacting with financial systems, they may need infrastructure that is programmable, transparent and able to operate without depending on a single company or platform.

That is where Ethereum could become relevant.

Smart contracts can provide the rules, while the blockchain can provide a shared settlement layer for transactions and digital assets.

Of course, this is Chalom’s perspective, not a guarantee of how the AI economy will develop. The real question is whether Ethereum can scale efficiently enough to support large numbers of autonomous agents and financial interactions.

AI + crypto is becoming an increasingly important conversation.

The phrase “uncensorable neutral rail” is very precise: AI agents transferring and settling with one another indeed cannot rely on a centralized platform.

The AI+Crypto sector is getting increasingly lively, but it still feels like it’s at the conceptual stage for now. Let’s see how it takes shape next year.

Chalom makes it sound easy, but can Ethereum’s gas fees and speed really handle massive volumes of AI transactions? I remain skeptical.

Smart contracts as the rule engine and blockchain as the settlement layer—this narrative has gone from DeFi to NFTs, and now it’s being applied to AI. Whether it works depends on execution.

This idea is quite interesting; AI agents indeed need a neutral infrastructure.
