BTC dipped to 82,832 early Friday and quickly recovered, then came under pressure again in the evening and fell to 83,301. It did not break below the previous low, forming a double-bottom testing structure in the 82,800–83,100 area on the four-hour chart. This pullback was mainly driven by concentrated profit-taking from longs, weakening macro sentiment, and cascading liquidations of leveraged long positions. However, because no major new negative catalyst emerged, the selling failed to continue. BTC is currently finding support above the lower Bollinger Band. The MACD remains in a bearish crossover and is heading lower, but the bearish histogram is shrinking, indicating a potential short-term exhaustion rebound. For BTC, watch for long-entry opportunities if 83,130 holds, with an initial target of 84,100, followed by higher levels after breaking the previous high. For ETH, watch for long-entry opportunities if 2,626 holds, with an initial target of 2,716 and then 2,742 after a breakout.
I. BTC tested lower levels twice on Friday. Why did it not make a new low?
BTC briefly dipped to 82,832 early Friday before quickly rising to 84,901, but came under pressure again in the evening, reaching a low of 83,301. On the surface, these appeared to be two declines, but in reality they were more like two releases of the same wave of selling pressure. The first dip mainly tested buying support at lower levels, while the second pullback was a shakeout near the previous high and profit-taking. The key point is that the second pullback did not break below 82,832, instead stabilizing around 83,301. This indicates that genuine buying exists in the 82,800–83,100 area. When the price first fell, funds entered to buy the dip; when it fell again, funds were still willing to provide support at a similar level. Without this support, BTC could have directly broken below the previous low, opening the way for a deeper decline. But the actual price action did not make a new low, indicating that short-term bearish momentum has begun to weaken.
II. The decline mainly came from profit-taking and leveraged liquidations, not a major new negative catalyst
The core reason this wave of selling did not continue is that no major new negative catalyst emerged. Rising U.S. Treasury yields and concerns that the Federal Reserve will maintain high interest rates have indeed weighed on risk-asset sentiment. However, these factors are known macroeconomic pressures, not sudden black swan events. What truly drove the rapid plunge was concentrated profit-taking by longs and cascading liquidations of leveraged long positions. After BTC’s rapid rise from its lows, a large amount of short-term profit had accumulated. When the price approached the previous high, some funds chose to lock in gains. At the same time, leveraged longs were forcibly liquidated during the rapid decline, further amplifying the drop. This type of decline comes quickly but is usually limited in duration. Once leveraged longs have been cleared out, the price can easily stage a recovery rebound. Therefore, the current pullback is closer to “short-term profit-taking + leveraged liquidation” than a trend reversal to the downside.
III. Why is the four-hour double bottom the most important structure at present?
On the four-hour chart, BTC stabilized after testing the 82,800–83,100 area twice, forming a short-term double-bottom structure. The significance of a double bottom is that it shows the bears are no longer able to make new lows. A rebound after the first dip and another rebound after the second dip indicate that buying at lower levels is gradually strengthening. However, it is important to note that the double bottom has not “already been confirmed”; it is “still forming.” A truly valid double bottom requires a subsequent high-volume breakout above the previous high for confirmation. Before that breakout, it is only a potential bottom structure.
Therefore, the more accurate description at present is: BTC’s bottoming zone is being tested, but the trend still requires confirmation.
IV. The MACD is in a bearish crossover, but the histogram is shrinking. Why is a rebound likely?
Technically, BTC is currently finding support above the lower Bollinger Band. The MACD remains in a bearish crossover and is heading lower, but the histogram is shrinking. This combination indicates that bearish momentum is nearing exhaustion. Although the price has not yet regained strength, its downward momentum is weaker than before. After bearish forces are exhausted, the market often stages an exhaustion rebound. However, an exhaustion rebound does not equal a trend reversal. It only indicates that short-term bearish momentum is weakening and does not necessarily mean that the bulls have fully taken control. Therefore, the rebound target should initially be the short-term resistance level, rather than immediately anticipating another major rally.
V. BTC: Why is 83,130 the level to watch for long entries?
When BTC retraces to around 83,130, this is currently the most important level for monitoring bullish momentum. If the price holds above 83,130, it indicates that short-term support is effective, the double-bottom structure remains intact, and the initial target is 84,100. If BTC can break above 84,100 with increased volume, it would indicate that the bulls are regaining control, after which the area around the previous high can be monitored. However, if the price breaks decisively below 83,130, the double-bottom structure will be damaged and the long-entry thesis will become invalid. Therefore, 83,130 is not an ordinary reference level, but a prerequisite for the current long-entry thesis.
