Bitcoin Slips Toward $73K as Selling Pressure Builds
Bitcoin has come under renewed pressure, falling toward the $73,000 region as heavy institutional outflows, geopolitical uncertainty, and widespread liquidations weigh on market sentiment.
At the time of analysis, BTC was trading near $73,235, after moving between an intraday high of $74,490 and a low of approximately $72,604.
Geopolitical Tension Triggers a Risk-Off Move
The latest decline accelerated following renewed geopolitical escalation involving the United States and Iran.
The broader risk-off reaction spilled into crypto markets, where high leverage amplified the move. More than $900 million in crypto positions were liquidated during the selloff, with long positions accounting for a significant portion of the forced closures.
This liquidation cascade increased selling pressure and pushed Bitcoin below the $73,000 psychological level before the market found temporary stability.
Bitcoin has also remained highly correlated with traditional risk assets. Its reported correlation with the Nasdaq Composite reached around 0.96, highlighting how closely crypto has been responding to broader macroeconomic risk sentiment.
ETF Outflows Add to Institutional Selling Pressure
Spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds have become another major source of pressure.
The market recorded eight consecutive sessions of net ETF outflows, one of the longest negative streaks since the launch of the products.
On May 27 alone, reported outflows reached approximately $733 million, taking cumulative withdrawals since mid-May beyond $2 billion.
A reported institutional block transaction involving approximately 29.2 million shares of BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust was also cited as a major source of selling pressure. The transaction was estimated at around $1.3 billion.
Following the reported transaction, Bitcoin experienced a sharp short-term decline, highlighting how thin liquidity can magnify the impact of large institutional flows.
Technical Structure Remains Under Pressure
Bitcoin has now slipped below several important short- and medium-term moving averages, including the 20-day, 50-day, and 100-day averages.
This keeps the near-term structure tilted toward the downside unless buyers can reclaim key resistance levels.
The most important support currently sits around $72,650, corresponding to the recent swing low.
A sustained hold above this zone could allow BTC to consolidate and attempt a recovery. However, a decisive breakdown could open the door toward the next major psychological level around $70,000.
$74,332 Is the First Major Recovery Barrier
On the upside, $74,332 stands out as the first significant resistance, corresponding to the 50% Fibonacci retracement level.
A move back above this area would be an important step toward stabilising the short-term structure.
Until that happens, rallies may continue to face selling pressure from traders looking to reduce exposure.
RSI Signals Potential Short-Term Relief
Despite the bearish structure, momentum indicators are beginning to show signs of exhaustion.
The 14-day RSI is around 34.82, placing Bitcoin close to oversold territory.
This does not automatically signal a trend reversal, but it does increase the possibility of a short-term relief bounce if selling pressure begins to fade.
The key distinction is whether any bounce can reclaim resistance levels or merely becomes another opportunity for sellers to enter.
Key Levels to Watch
Support: $72,650
Major psychological support: $70,000
Resistance: $74,332
Intraday high: $74,490
Current area: ~$73,235
14-day RSI: 34.82
Market Outlook
Bitcoin is currently caught between two opposing forces. Heavy ETF outflows, geopolitical uncertainty, and liquidation pressure are keeping sellers active, while the near-oversold RSI suggests that downside momentum may be becoming stretched.
The $72,650 level is therefore critical. Holding this zone could encourage consolidation and a technical rebound, while a clear breakdown would increase the risk of a move toward $70,000.
For now, the broader short-term structure remains under pressure, and the next major signal will likely come from Bitcoin's reaction around $72,650 support and $74,332 resistance.
