Micron Technology (NASDAQ: MU) is becoming one of the most important semiconductor names in the AI infrastructure cycle, and its latest price action shows why traders are paying close attention. MU is currently around $1,096.16, up approximately +5.00% from the previous close, after trading between an intraday low of $1,022.69 and a high of $1,097.12. The stock opened near $1,033 and has already moved roughly $73, or about +7.1%, from the session low to the current price.
Trading volume is already around 29.1 million shares, while Micron's market capitalization is approximately $1.255 trillion. This is a major move in an already enormous company, and it reflects how strongly the market is responding to the AI-memory story, tightening memory supply and expectations surrounding Micron's upcoming fiscal fourth-quarter earnings.
The recent momentum is particularly impressive when we look at the previous sessions. MU closed around $1,043.96 on September 21 after gaining approximately +2.77%, following a +3.92% gain on September 18 and a +5.50% gain on September 17. From the September 16 close near $926.55 to the current $1,096.16 area, MU has gained approximately +18.3% in only a few trading sessions. From $1,000 to the current price, the gain is approximately +9.62%, while from $1,043.96 to $1,096.16 the move is approximately +5.0%. The stock is therefore showing strong momentum, but after such a rapid advance, the next challenge is whether buyers can maintain control above the breakout zones rather than simply extending the move for another day.
The fundamental story behind Micron is equally powerful. AI data centers require enormous quantities of high-performance memory, particularly high-bandwidth memory and advanced DRAM, and the market is increasingly focused on whether supply can keep pace with AI-related demand. Recent reporting highlights strong AI demand, tight memory supply and improving pricing power as important drivers for Micron. The company is also approaching its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings report scheduled for September 30, making the coming sessions particularly sensitive to expectations around revenue, margins, memory pricing and forward guidance. Analysts cited by Investors' Business Daily expect approximately $50.82 billion of quarterly revenue and adjusted earnings of about $31.43 per share, although these are estimates rather than guaranteed results.
Technically, the immediate resistance is now the $1,097–$1,100 area because MU is already testing the intraday high around $1,097.12. A clean move above $1,100 would put $1,120 into focus, representing approximately +2.17% from $1,096.16. The next level around $1,150 would be approximately +4.91%, while $1,200 would represent approximately +9.47%. A move to $1,250 would be approximately +14.04%, bringing the stock closer to its previous all-time-high region. MU's previous 52-week high is around $1,255, so reclaiming $1,200 would place the stock only about 4.4% below that major historical reference. Investors' Business Daily has also identified $1,255 as the proper buy point in the current cup-base structure and noted that MU had already cleared an earlier $1,042.40 entry area.
The support structure is just as important. The first immediate support zone is around $1,050–$1,045, close to the previous closing area and recent pivot region. From $1,096.16, a decline to $1,050 would represent approximately -4.21%, while $1,045 would be approximately -4.67%. The next stronger support is around $1,020–$1,000; $1,020 would represent approximately -6.95% and $1,000 approximately -8.77%. A deeper move toward $970 would be around -11.51%, while $950 would represent approximately -13.34%.
These levels become especially important because MU has rallied rapidly, and semiconductor stocks can experience sharp pullbacks even while their larger trend remains constructive.
For a structured trading plan, the first confirmation is a sustained breakout above $1,100 rather than simply touching the level. If MU breaks $1,100 with strong volume, TP1 can be monitored around $1,150, representing approximately +4.9% from the current price; TP2 around $1,200, approximately +9.5%; and TP3 around $1,250–$1,255, approximately +14.0% to +14.5%. The $1,255 area is particularly important because it is close to the previous all-time-high reference and the current technical buy-point zone identified by Investors' Business Daily. For risk management, an aggressive SL1 could be around $1,045, approximately -4.7%; SL2 around $1,000, approximately -8.8%; and SL3 around $950, approximately -13.3%. These are analytical levels rather than guaranteed execution prices, and the appropriate risk level depends on position size and time horizon.

The RSI picture also deserves attention. Recent technical data has shown MU's moving-average structure strongly positive, with the September 21 technical snapshot showing buy signals across the 5-, 10-, 20-, 50-, 100- and 200-day moving averages. The same technical data showed pivot resistance around $1,052–$1,062 at that earlier session. Because MU has since moved substantially higher, those older pivot figures should not be treated as today's exact RSI or resistance readings. Instead, the current price action itself indicates strong momentum, and traders should watch for an RSI move above 70 combined with weakening price momentum as a potential sign of short-term overheating. Strong RSI can remain elevated during powerful trends, so an overbought reading by itself is not a sell signal.
The market sentiment around MU is currently strongly constructive because the stock is rising alongside a powerful AI-memory narrative, improving semiconductor momentum and expectations for the September 30 earnings report.
Recent sessions have shown repeated gains, while the broader technology market has also been strong. Analysts remain focused on AI-driven memory demand, DRAM pricing, HBM growth, supply constraints and margins. Micron's valuation expectations have also attracted attention; a recent MarketWatch report cited TD Cowen's $1,600 target and argued that a valuation rerating could become an additional source of upside if investors gain confidence that the memory cycle is structurally stronger. Separately, the current analyst consensus tracked by StockAnalysis shows an average target around $1,515, which would represent approximately +38.2% from $1,096.16, while the highest listed target is $2,200, approximately +100.7%. These are analyst estimates, not guaranteed forecasts.
My next plan for MU would therefore focus on the $1,100 breakout. If the stock closes strongly above $1,100 and volume remains elevated, the next progression is $1,120, $1,150 and then $1,200. A sustained move through $1,200 could bring $1,250–$1,255 back into immediate focus. If MU instead rejects $1,100 and falls toward $1,050–$1,045, the reaction there becomes critical. A successful rebound from that zone could create another attempt at $1,100, while a decisive breakdown below $1,000 would weaken the short-term structure and shift attention toward $970 and $950.
Overall, MU's setup combines exceptional AI-related demand, tight memory supply, strong recent price momentum and a major earnings catalyst on September 30. The current price near $1,096 is already only about 5% above the previous $1,044 close and approximately 18% above the September 16 close near $927, so the stock is clearly moving fast. The upside roadmap is $1,100 → $1,120 → $1,150 → $1,200 → $1,250/$1,255, while the key downside roadmap is $1,050 → $1,000 → $970 → $950. The critical question now is whether MU can convert the $1,100 area into support
If it can, the market could increasingly focus on $1,200 and the $1,250–$1,255 historical resistance zone; if it fails, a controlled pullback toward $1,050 or $1,000 would become the levels to monitor. With AI memory demand, supply tightness and earnings expectations all converging, Micron remains one of the most closely watched semiconductor stocks in this AI cycle.
