SpaceX (SPCX) has experienced a volatile trajectory since its initial public offering (IPO) in June 2026. After debuting at an offering price of $135, the stock climbed to $161 on its first day before retreating to $104.84—dropping below the IPO price. Recently showing signs of recovery, SPCX is trading at $154.45, with a market capitalization of approximately $2.03 trillion. Morgan Stanley has reiterated its "buy" recommendation with a target price of $300; however, Goldman Sachs's target of $205 highlights the divergence in valuations on Wall Street.
The company's core narrative rests on two main pillars. The first is the Starlink satellite internet network. During the 13th Starship test flight in July 2026, SpaceX successfully deployed 20 advanced Starlink V3 satellites for the first time. The company aims to launch V3 satellites on a large scale by the end of the year, thereby significantly increasing network capacity. The second pillar is the Starship program. In a test flight conducted in September 2026, Starship completed a trip around the globe and placed 20 Starlink satellites into orbit. SpaceX plans to carry out its first operational payload mission using Starship in the second half of 2026.
The financial picture presents a complex scenario. The company's revenue for 2025 stood at $18.7 billion, marking a 33% increase compared to the previous year. However, a net loss of $4.3 billion was reported against $4.7 billion in revenue for the first quarter of 2026. Starship R&D expenditures and Starlink infrastructure investments are weighing on short-term profitability. The company's goal of deploying V3 satellites on a large scale by the end of 2026 could strengthen Starlink's cash flow; however, it will take time for Starship to reach operational maturity and reduce costs.
SPCX stock trades with high volatility, serving as the most visible representative of the space economy. Short-term price movements are influenced by Fed policies and the general risk appetite for technology stocks. In the long term, however, the company's valuation hinges on Starlink's subscriber growth and Starship's success in commercial flights. The critical question for investors is the extent to which the current $2 trillion valuation reflects the cash flow that these two operational pillars will generate over the coming years.
