Gate Trenches and the Zero-Gas Trading Moment
Gate Trenches and the Zero-Gas Trading Moment: A New Standard for On-Chain Trading
There are moments in crypto when a platform stops simply following the market and starts changing the trading experience itself. Gate Trenches launching exclusive zero-gas trading for assets on the brand-new Arc chain is one of those moments. For years, gas fees have been one of the biggest hidden costs of on-chain trading. A trader can have the right idea, the right entry and the right timing, yet still lose part of the position's value to network costs before the trade even has a chance to work. Gate has attacked that problem directly by removing gas costs for Arc assets traded through Trenches during the launch period.
For active traders, this matters more than it may initially appear. Someone trading smaller positions or scaling into a trade through multiple entries can see gas fees accumulate quickly. Removing that cost makes smaller entries, faster rotations and more disciplined position management much more practical. Instead of constantly calculating whether a transaction is worth the network fee, traders can focus more of their attention on liquidity, execution, volatility and risk.
Gate Trenches itself is much more than a basic token swap interface. It is designed as a one-stop on-chain trading environment for the meme and social-trading ecosystem. Features such as the Callout leaderboard, KOL leaderboard and active account showcase bring discovery and social signals directly into the trading experience. That combination of discovering assets, watching market activity and executing trades in one environment makes Trenches considerably more than a simple swapper.
The workflow is also designed around speed. From Gate Web or the Gate App, users can search for a token or enter a contract address, view real-time quotes and K-line data, and execute on-chain trades directly through their Gate account balance without managing multiple external wallets and funding routes. Trenches already supports major networks including Robinhood Chain, Solana, Ethereum, Gate Layer, BNB Chain, Base, Sui, Arbitrum, World Chain, Avalanche, Polygon, Linea, zkSync, Optimism and Berachain, with further integrations expanding the ecosystem.
Now Arc adds another important chapter. Gate has integrated Arc across Gate Trenches, Gate Wallet and on-chain market data, creating a connected experience from asset discovery and market tracking to wallet management and trading. Arc is an EVM-compatible Layer 1 designed around global financial markets and real-time money movement. It uses USDC as gas initially, offers sub-second deterministic finality and predictable dollar-denominated fees while maintaining compatibility with Ethereum tooling and applications.
The most interesting part for traders is the exclusive zero-gas trading available for Arc chain assets in Trenches during the launch campaign. The campaign runs from September 16, 2026 at 09:30 UTC until September 27, 2026 at 08:00 UTC. Users need to register through Join Now before trading, and only Arc chain tokens traded inside the Trenches Zone count toward the campaign. Both buys and sells contribute to cumulative volume, while trading on other networks does not count.
The reward structure is designed for different levels of participation. There is a check-in reward pool, a trading-volume reward pool and a leaderboard distributing 25,000 USDT among the top 30 traders. The top tier requires substantial volume, with first place requiring at least 2 million USDT in cumulative volume, second place 1 million USDT and third place 500,000 USDT. Lower tiers continue down to 50,000 USDT for ranks 21–30.
Rewards are based on actual ranking, so meeting a threshold does not automatically guarantee a higher-tier reward.
There is also a separate 10,000 USDT trading-fee rebate voucher pool for eligible new users. Users who trade Arc chain tokens in Trenches and reach 100 USDT cumulative volume can qualify for a 10 USDT trading-fee rebate voucher while supplies last. Users who already had Trenches or former Gate Alpha Zone trading records before the campaign are not eligible for this new-user reward. Across the different reward pools, the campaign offers up to 60,000 USDT in total rewards.
The underlying fee structure makes the experience even more interesting. Trenches uses a unified 0.5% trading fee on both buys and sells across its terminals. Web users receive the rate automatically, while the Gate App also settles trades at 0.5%. Older App versions below 8.36.0 may still display the previous 0.8% figure on the interface, but the actual system settlement uses the lower 0.5% rate.
Then there is another part of the Gate ecosystem that long-term traders should understand: VIP. Many traders focus only on the headline trading fee, but Gate's VIP system provides another route toward lower costs. VIP progression considers 30-day trading volume together with the 14-day average GT holding. Spot and Convert volume counts fully, stock trading counts fully, futures volume receives different weighting depending on the contract type, options receive 20%, CFD volume 10%, and event trading volume receives 200% weighting. Copy-trading activity can also contribute, while qualifying merchant fiat trading activity may count as well.
The GT component is equally important. Gate calculates qualifying GT held across areas such as spot balances, GT locked in open orders, certain leveraged financial products and GT transferred into margin accounts, while borrowed GT is excluded. Users can also enable GT fee deduction to receive an additional trading-fee discount. This means GT can play two roles at once: contributing toward VIP progression and reducing trading costs.
VIP benefits go beyond lower fees. Higher tiers can provide greater credit lines, more sub-account capacity, access to selected campaigns and privileges, and at higher levels dedicated account-management support. For active traders, understanding the distance between the current VIP tier and the next tier can be useful because even small reductions in trading costs can become meaningful when multiplied across hundreds or thousands of transactions.
Putting everything together, the current Arc launch creates a particularly interesting trading environment. Register first, focus on eligible Arc assets inside Trenches, remember that both buys and sells contribute to volume, and keep track of the campaign's eligibility requirements. The leaderboard requires very large volumes, so traders should never take unnecessary risk simply to chase a reward. For many participants, the volume pool or new-user rebate may be more realistic targets.
Most importantly, zero gas does not mean zero risk. Emerging ecosystem tokens and memecoins can experience extreme volatility, rapidly changing liquidity and sharp price movements. Traders using leverage or perpetual contracts also face margin requirements and liquidation risk. Rewards should be treated as a bonus rather than a reason to take positions that exceed a trader's risk tolerance.
What makes this Arc launch notable is the combination of several layers of value. Gate has integrated a new blockchain into Trenches and Wallet, connected it with on-chain market data, and then removed network gas costs for Arc trading during the launch window. At the same time, Trenches maintains a 0.5% unified trading fee and Gate's broader VIP structure gives active users another path toward reducing long-term trading costs.
For me, this is where Gate's approach becomes especially interesting.
Instead of treating on-chain trading as a separate experience that users have to navigate outside the platform, Gate is bringing discovery, market data, wallet infrastructure, social signals and execution closer together. Zero-gas Arc trading adds another layer by removing one of the most frustrating costs from the early trading experience.
The opportunity window is temporary, so traders should read the official terms carefully, complete registration before trading and understand exactly which transactions qualify. The smartest way to use any campaign is not to trade simply because rewards exist, but to understand the product, control costs, manage risk and make every transaction deliberate.
Gate Trenches is showing how on-chain trading can become faster, simpler and more cost-conscious, and Arc gives that vision a new environment to test. Zero gas may sound like a small feature, but when repeated across many transactions, removing that friction can materially change the economics of active on-chain trading.
