Circle's Arc Mainnet Just Went Live — And Gate Was Ready on Day One

Circle officially flipped the switch on Arc's public mainnet on September 16, and this is one of those launches worth paying real attention to, not because of hype, but because of who's actually running it.

What Arc actually is

Arc is a Layer 1 blockchain built specifically for financial markets, payments, and tokenized assets, with USDC as its native gas token instead of a separate volatile coin. That alone is a meaningful design choice, it removes the friction of needing to hold and manage a separate gas token just to transact. Circle also says the network delivers deterministic finality in under one second and is fully EVM compatible, meaning developers can bring existing Solidity contracts over without rebuilding from scratch.

The part that really stands out is the validator set. Rather than an open, permissionless pool, Arc runs on a permissioned group of eleven founding institutional validators alongside Circle itself, including names like BlackRock, DTCC, Visa, Mastercard, and Standard Chartered. BlackRock is reportedly expected to deploy its BUIDL tokenized fund on the network, and DTCC is working with Circle on tokenizing assets it custodies. This is about as institutional a genesis validator lineup as you'll find in this space, drawn almost entirely from traditional finance rather than crypto native infrastructure.

Gate's integration on launch day

Gate connected to Arc across multiple products right from day one, including Gate Wallet, on-chain market data, and Gate Trenches, which now supports Arc ecosystem asset discovery and trading. The standout feature here is exclusive 0 gas trading support through Trenches, meaning users can trade Arc-based assets without paying gas fees on those transactions, something that removes a real friction point especially for smaller or more frequent trades during a new chain's early activity window.

Why day one integration matters

New chain launches tend to have a specific rhythm. The earliest days after mainnet usually carry the most experimentation, the widest range of new tokens appearing, and often the most volatility, simply because price discovery hasn't settled yet and liquidity is still thin. Having access to that activity from day one, with reduced friction like 0 gas trading, matters more than it might during a mature chain's normal trading cycle, since early positioning in a new ecosystem often carries a different risk and reward profile than trading an established one.

Positioning and what to watch

Given Arc's institutional backing and stablecoin native design, this ecosystem seems more likely to attract RWA and DeFi infrastructure projects early on rather than a flood of pure meme activity, though with a permissionless deployment layer sitting under a permissioned validator set, it's realistic to expect a mix of both. Circle has also connected Arc to its Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol and Circle Gateway, extending liquidity access across more than 20 supported chains, which could make asset movement into and out of the Arc ecosystem smoother than a typical isolated new chain launch.

For anyone actively watching this space, a reasonable approach is to track which projects deploy first and which ones attract genuine liquidity rather than just announcement hype. Early asset discovery through Trenches gives a practical way to monitor that activity as it happens, but new chain ecosystems in their first days and weeks tend to have wide swings in both directions as capital rotates between the initial wave of listed assets.

A quick note on the ARC ticker

Worth flagging separately, the ARC/USDT pair currently listed under "AI Rig Complex" is a distinct, unrelated token that happens to share the same ticker symbol. Circle has stated that no public ARC token tied to the Arc chain itself has launched yet, so it's worth not confusing the two when discussing this ecosystem.

Possible bullish scenario

If institutional-grade infrastructure genuinely attracts serious RWA and payments-focused projects to build on Arc, the ecosystem could develop a different character than typical retail-driven chain launches, potentially with more durable, less speculative activity over time. Early liquidity and asset discovery advantages through platforms like Trenches could also mean early participants get better entry points before broader awareness catches up.

Possible bearish scenario

A permissioned validator set, no matter how credible the institutions involved, is a different trust model than fully decentralized chains, and some in the crypto community may be hesitant to fully embrace an ecosystem where block production sits with a fixed group of financial institutions. New chain launches also commonly see an early wave of low quality or purely speculative tokens before genuine ecosystem projects mature, and it can take time to separate the two.

Risks to keep in mind

Trading assets on a brand-new chain in its first days carries elevated volatility and liquidity risk, since price discovery hasn't stabilized and many projects haven't been tested under real market conditions yet. Zero gas trading removes one type of friction but doesn't remove market risk, smart contract risk, or the risk of chasing early hype without clear fundamentals behind a specific project.

My overall view

This is a genuinely different kind of chain launch than most of what the market has seen recently, purpose-built for stablecoin finance with an institutional validator backbone rather than a typical retail-first Layer 1 debut. Gate having full integration ready on day one, including 0 gas trading through Trenches, puts users in a position to explore this new ecosystem early without unnecessary friction, but as with any new chain, the smart move is watching which projects actually build real activity rather than jumping into everything that lists in the first 48 hours.

What would you most like to see first on Arc, new memes, new DeFi protocols, or RWA projects? And are you treating this early volatility as opportunity or as a reason to wait on the sidelines?
