. SPDR Gold Trust Holdings Increase by 2.852 Tons Yesterday to 1,050.277 Tons
The SPDR Gold Trust (GLD), the world's largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund, reported an increase in its holdings of 2.852 tonnes on September 15, 2026, bringing its total gold reserves to 1,050.277 tonnes, up from 1,047.425 tonnes the previous day. The inflow into gold contrasts sharply with the significant outflows from Bitcoin and Ethereum spot ETFs on the same day, highlighting a clear rotation by institutional investors toward traditional safe-haven assets amid rising geopolitical tensions and hawkish Federal Reserve expectations. Gold's appeal as a hedge against currency debasement and fiscal uncertainty has been reinforced by the U.S. Treasury's recent decision to double its long-dated debt buyback operations, a policy shift that has raised concerns about long-term fiscal sustainability. The GLD inflow came as gold prices remained relatively stable, with spot gold trading around $4,398 per ounce, while silver continued to face selling pressure, with the iShares Silver Trust (SLV) reporting a decline in holdings of 25.29 tonnes to 15,266.31 tonnes. The divergence between gold and silver reflects the different drivers of the two metals: gold is benefiting from its role as a monetary hedge, while silver is more exposed to industrial demand concerns amid slowing global growth. For content creators, this is a story about the "debasement trade" and the growing preference among institutional investors for gold over crypto assets in periods of macro uncertainty. The GLD share price edged up 0.35% on the day, reflecting the positive sentiment toward the metal.
