📊 CPI Reaction: What Could Happen Next?

August U.S. CPI came in at 0.4% MoM, with annual inflation at 3.4%, both matching expectations. In the short term, markets may focus less on the headline number and more on what it means for the Fed.
If inflation continues to cool, expectations for rate cuts could strengthen, potentially supporting stocks and crypto through improved risk appetite and liquidity.
But if inflation remains sticky, traders may expect higher rates for longer. That could pressure equities and keep crypto volatility elevated.
For now, I think the key is Fed expectations, Treasury yields, and upcoming economic data.
The question is: will markets treat this CPI print as supportive, or remain cautious?

At 0.4%, the figure is neither high nor low. The Fed is now in a dilemma, and I think it will cut rates by at most 25 bp in September.

The data are in, but the narrative hasn’t landed. The market is torn between a soft landing and no landing—not over the 0.4% itself.

Let's wait for retail sales and PPI—CPI alone doesn't tell us much, and betting on a direction now could easily backfire.

We’ve heard “sticky inflation” to death this year, but if U.S. Treasury yields come down, risk assets really do have a shot.
