First, spot and futures volumes rose in tandem, rather than moving on only one front.
CryptoQuant particularly emphasized that the backdrop to this surge was "volume rising with price," rather than panic selling—on August 21, global spot volume was approximately $75 billion and perpetual futures volume approximately $336 billion, both hitting multi-month highs. Spot expansion usually corresponds to genuine new participation, while futures expansion reflects trading depth. Their synchronized growth is healthier than a mere surge in futures volume.
Second, it is important to distinguish industry β from its own α.
In the same month, Coinb rose 429%, OK 213%, and Bn and long-tail platforms approximately 157%–163%. The entire industry saw volume expansion, so a considerable portion of the 667% came from the overall market recovery. What truly represents Gate's outperformance is the portion by which it ran ahead of its peers, as well as the continuity of that performance: In CryptoQuant's 2025 annual report, Gate was already the fastest-growing platform for the full year, with annual trading volume increasing by $3.9 trillion, up 204% year over year, while its 468% increase in perpetual futures led the market. A full year of leadership is more compelling than a high growth rate in a single month.
Third, "third in scale + first in growth" means market share is shifting, but it remains necessary to verify whether that share can be retained.
The 30-day relative growth rate is highly sensitive to the base, while the volume surge on August 21 was concentrated in a single trading day. Once the base rises, the growth rate will naturally decline. What truly needs to be monitored next is spot market share and liquidity depth after normalization, rather than the growth figure itself.
If I had to answer in one sentence: The keyword for this round is market-share migration, not a market pulse—the synchronized growth of spot and futures, combined with growth that is not confined to an isolated month, points to a structural change. $GT
