Gate US Expands To 37 State Licenses And Sets New Standard For Compliance
Gate US has reached a defining milestone in its American rollout: 37 state Money Transmitter Licenses secured, with compliant operations now covering nearly every U.S. jurisdiction.
Announced on September 14 as part of a major weekly update that also highlighted a 667% surge in spot volume, the achievement marks the platform's fastest period of regulatory growth since entering the U.S. market. In a market where trust is built on licensure and auditability, hitting 37 puts Gate US among the most broadly licensed digital asset venues in the country.
1. A Rapid Climb From 28 To 37
The expansion has been methodical and fast. Dual approvals in Tennessee and Delaware took the total to 28 licenses covering 38 jurisdictions. Wisconsin then pushed the count to 35 licenses and 46 jurisdictions. South Dakota added another, bringing it to 31 and 42. The latest batch brings the total to 37, with coverage now extending to 48 jurisdictions when including states that issue written confirmations that a license is not required for this business model.
Each license represents a full regulatory review: capital requirements, custody controls, cybersecurity standards, surety bonds, background checks for key personnel, and ongoing examination. This is not a federal passport. It is 37 separate approvals.
2. Why This Number Matters For U.S. Users
The United States does not have a single federal crypto trading license. Operations depend on a patchwork of state money transmission laws plus federal registration with FinCEN and listing on NMLS. To operate lawfully, a platform must maintain individual state licenses and enforce strict KYC and AML programs in each state.
For traders, 37 licenses means three concrete benefits. First, clear legal access where they live. Second, higher standards for fund segregation and consumer protection. Third, a platform built to withstand regulatory scrutiny, with audited systems designed for U.S. financial oversight from day one rather than retrofitted for it.
3. Growth Beyond Paperwork
Licensing is not happening in isolation. The same week Gate US crossed 37 licenses, it reported a sharp rise in spot activity, driven by deeper order books, broader fiat on-ramps, and a wave of new listings that had already cleared compliance review. New features like KYC-based gift cards are being rolled out only for verified accounts across all supported jurisdictions, ensuring that growth does not come at the expense of compliance.
The approach is deliberate: build an architecture that meets U.S. oversight requirements while keeping the speed and product breadth users expect from a global digital asset platform.
4. What Comes Next
The company has stated that its mission is to build a trusted and legally compliant venue for U.S. users, working proactively with state regulators to meet licensing standards and provide a secure and transparent environment for trading. The goal is full 50-state coverage, with remaining applications already in progress.
With 37 licenses secured, Gate US has turned what many saw as the hardest market to enter into its strongest proof point. It is a clear signal that compliance is no longer a backend task. It is the product itself, and the foundation for the next phase of growth in the United States.
