Anthropic Chooses Nasdaq: The IPO That Could Test the Entire AI Market
Anthropic selecting Nasdaq for its potential IPO is one of those developments that deserves much more attention than a simple headline. For me, this is not only about one AI company becoming public. It could become a major test of how much confidence public-market investors still have in the artificial intelligence growth story, how aggressively they are willing to value frontier AI companies, and whether the current AI expansion is developing into a genuine long-term technology supercycle or moving toward a valuation bubble.
Reports on September 13 said Anthropic has selected Nasdaq for its potential IPO, with October reportedly being considered as a possible listing window. However, the important point for traders is that the final IPO date, offering size, IPO price and valuation are not yet confirmed. I would therefore treat every valuation or timing figure circulating in the market as an estimate until Anthropic officially files and discloses the relevant terms.
Why This IPO Matters
Anthropic is not entering the public market as an unknown startup. Its Claude AI ecosystem has become one of the most important competitors in the rapidly developing generative-AI market. The company is competing for enterprise customers, developers and businesses that increasingly want AI systems capable of coding, reasoning, automation and complex workflows.
Recent reports have highlighted extremely rapid revenue growth. Anthropic reportedly generated around $11.5 billion in revenue during Q2, with revenue growing roughly 14x year over year. Reports have also indicated that the company expects adjusted operating profit to remain positive for a second consecutive quarter.
These numbers explain why investors are paying so much attention.
But there is another side to the story.
A company can grow extremely quickly and still become a bad investment if the market prices that growth too aggressively.
That is the question I would keep in mind throughout the entire Anthropic IPO process.
How much growth is already priced into the valuation?
My IPO Trading Strategy
If Anthropic actually lists on Nasdaq, I would not make the mistake of assuming that the first large price move represents the true long-term value of the company.
The first trading session could be extremely volatile.
Institutional investors, retail traders, algorithms, AI-focused funds and momentum traders could all be participating simultaneously. That can create a huge opening gap, rapid price discovery and potentially violent reversals.
My approach would therefore be confirmation-first.
I would watch the opening range, VWAP, volume, intraday support and resistance, higher highs, higher lows and the reaction to the first major breakout.
If Anthropic opens strongly and then holds above VWAP while building higher lows, that would tell me that buyers are supporting the new valuation.
If price breaks the opening high with strong volume and later retests that level successfully, I would consider that a much healthier bullish structure than simply chasing the first vertical move.
On the other hand, if the stock opens with extreme optimism, loses VWAP, breaks the opening-range low and starts producing lower highs, I would become defensive.
My basic framework would be:
IPO pricing → opening range → VWAP → volume → support/resistance → breakout → retest → confirmation → entry.
I would not use:
Headline → FOMO → first candle → all-in.
That difference can completely change the risk profile of an IPO trade.
Bullish Scenario
The bullish argument is straightforward.
AI adoption continues to expand across businesses, software development, customer service, automation, cybersecurity, research and enterprise workflows.
Claude has established a strong position within that ecosystem.
If Anthropic continues growing revenue rapidly while improving operating efficiency, investors could begin valuing it as a major technology platform rather than simply another venture-backed AI startup.
A successful public listing could also create a powerful signal for the broader AI industry.
If public investors are willing to accept a very high valuation for Anthropic and continue supporting the stock after the IPO, that could encourage more capital to flow into the AI ecosystem.
That could benefit companies involved in:
AI chips → cloud infrastructure → networking → data centers → memory → power infrastructure → enterprise software → AI applications.
This is why I would not look at Anthropic in isolation.
The IPO could become another piece of the much larger AI investment cycle.
Bearish Scenario
However, the bearish case is equally important.
The higher the valuation, the higher the expectations.
If Anthropic enters the public market at an enormous valuation, investors will expect exceptional growth for years.
That means even strong results might not be enough if they are below expectations.
For example, imagine a company growing revenue rapidly but the market expected even faster growth. The company could report impressive numbers and still see its stock fall because expectations were already too high.
That is expectation risk.
There is also the issue of AI infrastructure costs.
Frontier AI models require enormous computing resources. Training, inference, data centers, chips and energy can create substantial expenses.
Competition is another major factor.
Anthropic is competing in an environment that includes OpenAI, Google, Microsoft-backed AI ecosystems, Meta and numerous specialized AI companies.
Therefore, I would not judge Anthropic simply by asking whether Claude is successful.
I would ask whether Anthropic can maintain its growth rate while improving economics in an increasingly competitive market.
AI Bubble or AI Supercycle?
This is the bigger question behind the IPO.
Are we witnessing an AI supercycle, or are valuations getting ahead of fundamentals?
Personally, I think there are arguments for both sides.
The bullish side has genuine fundamentals.
AI is already changing how companies develop software, analyze information, automate workflows and interact with customers. Corporations are spending heavily on computing infrastructure because they believe AI can produce measurable productivity gains.
The semiconductor industry has also experienced a dramatic transformation because of AI workloads.
Cloud providers are building enormous infrastructure.
Data-center demand is increasing.
AI coding and agentic software are becoming increasingly important.
These are not imaginary trends.
But the existence of a genuine technological revolution does not mean every AI stock or private company is correctly valued.
History has shown us that the strongest technological trends can still create periods of excessive speculation.
That is why I would separate two questions:
Is AI adoption real?
I believe the answer is clearly yes.
Are all AI valuations sustainable?
That answer is much less certain.
Why Anthropic Could Become the Market's Test
This is where the Anthropic IPO becomes particularly interesting.
If the company receives an extremely high valuation and then performs well after listing, investors may interpret that as evidence that public markets still have strong confidence in the long-term AI opportunity.
But if the IPO valuation is extremely aggressive and the stock struggles to hold its opening levels, the message could be very different.
It could indicate that investors are becoming more selective.
The market might still believe in AI but demand better prices.
That distinction is extremely important.
A correction in AI valuations would not necessarily mean the AI revolution is over.
It could simply mean the market is recalculating how much it is willing to pay for future growth.
The Bigger AI Ecosystem
I would also watch major AI-related public companies around the IPO.
NVIDIA remains one of the most important infrastructure beneficiaries because advanced AI models require massive amounts of accelerated computing.
Microsoft and Google remain major forces in cloud and enterprise AI.
Amazon is deeply involved in AI infrastructure and cloud services.
Meta continues investing heavily in AI models and infrastructure.
Broadcom is also important because custom AI accelerators and networking infrastructure are becoming increasingly significant.
But I would not assume that Anthropic going public automatically makes these stocks bullish.
Markets are more complicated than that.
A successful Anthropic IPO could reinforce the AI narrative, but it could also increase competition for investor capital. If investors decide Anthropic deserves a very high valuation, they may begin comparing that valuation against existing AI companies.
That comparison could create both winners and losers.
My Personal Trader Lesson
The biggest lesson I take from this story is:
News creates volatility, but price action creates confirmation.
This is something I always try to remember when trading major market narratives.
A headline can tell me what happened.
Fundamentals can tell me why it matters.
But price action tells me whether the market actually agrees.
If Anthropic receives a huge amount of attention but cannot maintain its opening levels, I would respect the chart.
If it breaks resistance, holds the breakout and continues producing higher lows with strong volume, I would respect that too.
I don't need to predict every move.
I need to manage the risk around the move.
How I Would Manage Risk
For an IPO this important, I would avoid oversized positions.
I would never treat the AI narrative as a reason to go all-in.
My preference would be smaller initial exposure, confirmation-based entries and predefined invalidation.
If the trade works, I can scale gradually.
If the trade fails, I want the loss to remain manageable.
For me, the order is always:
Capital protection → confirmation → risk/reward → position size → profit.
Not:
FOMO → leverage → hope.
An IPO can move much faster than a normal stock because price discovery is still developing. That makes risk management even more important.
My Final View
I see Anthropic's potential Nasdaq IPO as a much bigger event than simply another technology listing.
It could become a real-time test of the AI investment thesis.
If Anthropic demonstrates extraordinary revenue growth, strong enterprise demand and improving economics while the public market supports its valuation, the argument for a long-term AI supercycle becomes stronger.
But if the valuation becomes disconnected from sustainable earnings potential, the IPO could also remind investors that even revolutionary technologies have valuation limits.
That is the balance I want to maintain.
I am optimistic about the long-term impact of AI, but I do not believe optimism should replace valuation discipline.
For traders, the opportunity will not simply be predicting whether Anthropic goes up or down.
The real opportunity will be identifying where price discovery turns into a sustainable trend.
So my framework remains simple:
Understand the AI narrative → study the valuation → watch the opening range → follow VWAP → analyze volume → identify support/resistance → wait for confirmation → manage risk.
The AI story may continue for years.
But every individual trade still needs an entry, an invalidation level and a reason to stay in the position.
What do you think?
Will Anthropic's Nasdaq IPO become another confirmation that we are entering a powerful AI supercycle, or could its valuation become the moment when investors finally start questioning how much they are willing to pay for AI growth?
And if Anthropic performs strongly after listing, which AI stock do you think could benefit the most?۔
