On September 12 local time, U.S. President Trump held a bilateral meeting with the Irish prime minister in Ireland. Trump said: “The war with Iran will end very soon after the midterm elections, and oil prices will plunge afterward.”
U.S. media reported on the 12th that Trump said Iran was very likely behind the airstrikes on Saudi Arabia that caused its east-west oil pipeline to shut down. The pipeline is one of Saudi Arabia’s main routes for exporting crude oil while bypassing the Strait of Hormuz.
When asked whether Iran should be held responsible for the attack on the key oil pipeline, Trump told reporters in Dublin, the capital of Ireland: “I think it was them, very likely them.”
Trump also said he had spoken by phone with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, whom he described as a “good friend.”
He said that the Iran-allied Houthi militants had called the U.S. government to say that they did not want the United States to become directly involved in the conflict.
Trump said: “They would prefer that we not get involved, and they will allow most ships to pass through. There is only one country that makes them somewhat unhappy, and we will take care of that.”$XBRUSD
