What Will Crypto See If CLARITY Passes?

The U.S. Senate’s revised CLARITY Act has entered a critical final sprint. The latest text is approximately 630 pages long and further refines regulation around digital asset market structure, while adding registration and compliance requirements for non-decentralized DeFi trading protocols. The Senate is expected to hold a key procedural vote on September 15.

From an industry perspective, this could be an important step in shifting U.S. Crypto regulation from “regulation through enforcement” to “regulation through rules.” One of CLARITY’s core objectives is to further clarify the regulatory boundaries between the SEC and CFTC and define which digital assets are closer to securities and which qualify as digital commodities. Reuters previously also noted that the bill is viewed by the industry as an important attempt to establish the first relatively comprehensive federal rules for digital assets in the United States.

If it advances smoothly, the most direct beneficiaries may not be any single token, but the entire compliant Crypto industry chain: trading platforms, stablecoins, RWA, custodians, and DeFi infrastructure could all see reduced policy uncertainty, while institutional capital may also become more willing to participate.

But don’t forget that there is still a long way to go before it becomes law. The bill needs bipartisan support, and significant disagreements remain over issues including anti-money laundering, stablecoin yields, competition with banks, and political ethics.
