From Trading Coins to Trading Global Assets

Gate has entered the global top three for RWA perpetual futures, reflecting a shift in the competitive logic of crypto trading platforms. According to CoinDesk’s latest report, total CEX RWA perpetual futures trading volume reached $602 billion in August. Gate recorded $64.7 billion, up 158% month-on-month, while its market share rose from 5.32% in July to 12.6%, lifting it to third place.
Why has RWA suddenly attracted market attention? Traditional financial markets generate substantial price movements every day, but traditional trading systems face limitations such as trading hours, account structures, and product entry barriers. One of the biggest advantages of crypto-native trading platforms is that they are available around the clock, globally accessible, and offer a wide range of derivatives tools.
When assets such as stocks, indices, and commodities enter the perpetual futures system, users are no longer focused solely on “which coin will rise,” but also on U.S. stocks, gold, global indices, and even macro events themselves. The boundaries of trading are being redefined.
Gate’s rapid rise from 5.32% to 12.6% shows that the platform is moving to capture the traffic gateway of this new market. In the future, competition among exchanges may well evolve from simply competing for crypto users to competing for global asset trading users.
