Gate’s RWA Perpetuals Position Could Be the Beginning of Something Bigger
When I look at Gate’s reported Top 3 position in global RWA Perpetual Futures, I do not see it as just another ranking update. I see it as evidence that the boundaries between traditional financial markets and blockchain-based trading infrastructure are becoming increasingly connected.
According to the reported July data, the global RWA perpetual market generated approximately $460 billion in trading volume, representing a 47.8% month-over-month increase. Gate captured around 4.39% market share, placing it among the global Top 3 centralized exchanges in this category.
Those numbers immediately make me interested in the bigger picture.
RWA, or Real-World Assets, represents financial assets and instruments connected to traditional markets that can be brought into blockchain-based environments. This can include exposure related to equities, commodities, indices, metals and other financial markets.
When these assets are combined with perpetual futures, traders gain access to long and short positioning without a traditional contract expiration. Funding mechanisms help keep perpetual contracts aligned with their underlying markets.
That creates an interesting bridge between traditional finance and crypto infrastructure.
And Gate appears to be positioning itself directly within that bridge.
The scale of the market is particularly important. If approximately $460 billion of RWA perpetual volume was generated globally in July, Gate’s 4.39% share would correspond to roughly $20.2 billion of activity if applied proportionally to the reported aggregate figure.
This is only an approximation, not a forecast, but it helps demonstrate how significant even a single-digit market share can become when the underlying market reaches hundreds of billions of dollars.
The growth rate is another factor I would not ignore.
Reported RWA perpetual volume was approximately $211 billion in May and around $460 billion in July, representing roughly a 118% increase over that period.
Past growth never guarantees future growth. However, the acceleration suggests that market participants are paying increasing attention to this category.
Gate also has a broader derivatives foundation supporting this expansion.
The reported July figures show approximately $276 billion in Gate derivatives volume, giving Gate around 9.08% derivatives market share. Gate also reportedly represented approximately 11.2% of futures open interest among retail-focused exchanges.
I think open interest is especially important because it provides another perspective. Trading volume measures activity, while open interest reflects outstanding positions. Together, they can provide a better picture of participation in the derivatives ecosystem.
Gate is not building its RWA presence from zero.
Its existing spot and derivatives infrastructure gives it a broader foundation. July spot volume was reported at approximately $35.8 billion, with around 4.93% spot-market share.
For me, this combination matters because it suggests an ecosystem approach rather than dependence on one product.
But there is an important warning.
Perpetual futures can involve leverage, and leverage can magnify both gains and losses. Funding rates, liquidity, volatility, open interest and liquidation levels can change quickly.
If I were analyzing RWA perpetual markets, I would pay close attention to price structure, volume, funding rates, liquidity and open interest rather than focusing only on rankings or headline numbers.
The opportunity is significant, but discipline remains essential.
Looking ahead, the potential scale becomes even clearer.
A $500 billion monthly RWA perpetual market with a 5% share would equal $25 billion in activity. At $750 billion, the same share would represent $37.5 billion. At $1 trillion, it would represent $50 billion.
These are scenarios, not predictions.
That is why I believe Gate’s current 4.39% position is worth watching.
The real question is not simply whether Gate can remain Top 3.
The bigger question is whether Gate can continue improving liquidity, execution, product coverage, user participation and risk infrastructure as the RWA market develops.
My view remains positive on this direction.
Crypto does not have to remain limited to crypto-native assets. The larger opportunity may be creating infrastructure where blockchain technology and traditional financial markets can increasingly interact.
RWA perpetuals could become an important part of that evolution.
And Gate is already building its position in that market.
RWA is expanding.
Perpetual markets are evolving.
Traditional finance is moving closer to blockchain.
And Gate is positioning itself early in that convergence.
