Samsung Invests in Mistral AI as Korea-France Sign 16 Agreements on September 8
South Korea and France signed 16 cooperation documents on September 8 during South Korean President Lee Jae Myung's visit to France for a summit with President Emmanuel Macron. Among the key agreements was an investment pact between Samsung Electronics and French AI startup Mistral AI. Samsung will become a "strategic investor" in Mistral AI, leading the company's Series D funding round of 3 billion euros (approximately $3.5 billion), with Mistral's post-money valuation reaching over 21 billion euros. The agreement also calls for cooperation in developing an exclusive AI model for Samsung that could protect its semiconductor information. The South Korean presidential office said the deal is expected to help advance bilateral cooperation on cutting-edge technology beyond the company level to the state level. Two other MOUs were signed: one on joint research and development projects between South Korean and French companies in the AI, semiconductor and quantum technology sectors, and another for enhanced cooperation in industrial policies and trade. Samsung Electronics edged down 0.18% on the session.
